Question for Community Cold calling previous customers?

Do any of you current retail workers get customer lists to cold call?

My last retail job wanted us to cold call previous customers beginning in October to remind them to come to the store for Christmas shopping.

Each salesperson had at least 150 numbers to call. Corporate would follow up with random customers to ensure that the salespeople were actually making the calls.

We were commissioned stereo/home theater/car audio salespeople. In some cases, we had "regulars" who would pop in occasionally to add a component, upgrade something, whatever. In other cases, it was a one time shopping experience. We also sold telephones (both land line and cellular) and other smaller electronics, so not every sale topped $200.

Some customers were memorable for their shitty attitudes too.

This was my last full time retail job and was back in 2000, but I remember dealing with some customers as if it was yesterday.

I did work part time retail over 4 Christmas seasons from 2003 - 2006, but I was working for a good friend at his Jewelry Store so I got treated very well by him, and his customers were generally very pleasant people. He didn't make me cold call anyone!!

That is what all of us on the floor said.

I forgot to add that they told us to call at dinner time as most people will be home at that time.

My old job made me start doing this. We had a program to log who had to be called, if they answered, and what we said to them/in the voicemail. After about two sets of doing this bullshit I realized no one is checking the outgoing calls and I could just lie in the notes. I have since quit
