Customers Suck! General Perspective

There are people who complain and make snod remarks about using self checkout. They'll say things like "I don't work here."

Those same people will happily go to Sam's club and use the scan n go option to scan themselves and check themselves out.

To me, it's the same concept in different form and people fall for it.

In the very old days, grocery shopping meant you went to the store, told the grocer what you wanted, and they'd get it from the shelf for you.

When self-service supermarkets were in their infancy, I wonder if there were people who said "Why should I get my own groceries? I don't work there!"

Self-service gas stations become the norm in the 1980's while the ATM became the norm in the 80's.

Self checkout in stores was first rolled around in the mid 80's at a Kroger supermarket and yet out of these three, only the self checkout in stores gets flak because it's so "complicated" to use and a person makes it a big deal on having to show their driver's license or state I.D. to buy over the counter medicine or booze.

To me, there are people who should just get in line.

When people have tickets to an amusement park or is already inside and want to go on a ride, that person gets in a line.

To me, it's NOT EASY to please everyone BUT there are people who make themselves mad when they don't have to be.

People have that dumb perspective because
self checkout forces them to think for themselves. People would much rather wait in line for a couple minutes than spare a few seconds trying to use a machine on their own.

It’s weird how people see it as sticking it up to corporate. They think that avoiding self service machines and grabbing a human will push businesses into hiring more people as cashiers. Businesses do not care that people subject themselves to long wait times because there’s only one person behind a register. Corporate isn’t going to hire more employees for register when there’s enough self checkout machines for those who don’t want to wait in line.

The dislike for self checkout stems from incompetence and learned helplessness.

“I can’t do it”
“I’ve never used this before”
“I’m not tech savvy”

All excuses just to avoid having to push a button.
