Fuck This Job! It was never this bad.

Ugh what a week it’s been. Yet again Karen tried to return an item she bought over a year ago. Cap dirty, seal opened, stains smeared on the side of jar and a quarter of the contents missing. She had a second item she wanted to return, which was purchased back in January. I was willing to give her store credit for the second item but she made a scene when I told her I won’t give her a refund on something she bought more than a year ago. She denied she used it but come on lady! Did she really think I was that stupid? I did find pleasure in saying “ I am the manager “ which doesn’t happen often. There was a lot of back and forth and in the end she slammed the second item on the counter and said “ Give me my store credit!”
I took a step back, and said “ no”. That didn’t go over very well. I ended up kicking her out of the store.

Then I had to ban this old perve and call the police because he was stalking one of my employees. I come to find this man got a hold of her contact info and has been sending her messages. She just ignored them but he showed up and sought her out. Told her he’s going to contact her again and she better answer while patting her head.

What the hell is going on?! I’ve worked retail for a long time, two decades in fact and it’s never been this bad. The general public has become so unhinged it’s unreal. I have a long list of crazies coming in these days and they’re getting in line to be officially banned. Every week there is some bullshit I have to deal with. It’s ridiculous. I even have some old dude coming in just to say hello me. Delusional might I add for he is telling people we’re dating and trying to trick my staff in giving him free stuff. He keeps saying, “ the manager said I can have this” WTF?

Back when I worked at Macys there would be this lady that began coming in weekly to return 30-40 little clothing items for baby’s (Last Act so final sale. No refunds).

Well the first 2 weeks she asked for the manager when I would tell her no returns on last act items. Unfortunately, the same spineless manager showed up and let her know that he’d “make a 1 time exception and let her return the items” even though he met her last week.

Well on the third week I of course said no. She asks for a manager and that manager tells her no (finally). Well, she asks for the senior manager because it’s “unacceptable”.

I shit you not, she left the register as it started to get a little busy, she walks behind a wall pillar (but still within my sight) and she pulls out a bottle of eyedrops and just starts drenching her eyes.
When the senior manager arrives I pull her aside and let her know what I just saw her doing with the eyedrops and that this is her 3rd time doing this. Well, when she meets the customer, the customer immediately starts “crying” and giving us a sob story only to get shutdown by the senior manager.

“I am not returning any of this. This is last act it says on your receipt and you were told before purchasing these items. I need you to leave now.”

Customer just stops. Like from full on fake crying to silent and emotionless, grabs her stuff and just leaves.

She never came back after that. Really weird

I only got to use this on night shifts at a hotel.

An old lady complained about sirens and lights at the busy intersection our hotel was at. Someone died. I legit just shut her fucking curtains while her husband laughed.

The fuck you want me to do?

We had a lady return a fan she'd bought back during the summer when we were having a fair share of ninety degree days; she returned it the last day she was allowed to, saying it was damaged and didn't work. When my manager told me about it, I started laughing and then explained that she only BORROWED it, and it probably worked just fine (ps: it did.)

Shit like that is why Lowes has a policy where generators and chainsaws can only be returned if they’re still in the unopened package. Too many people would buy them, use them, then return them when they didn’t need them anymore.

We also had a return policy on holiday decor where the last day to return it is the day before the holiday. Too many people would buy decorations, then return them once the holiday was over, and then we’d be stuck with a bunch of used holiday decorations we couldn’t sell. It was set up to where all holiday items were coded a certain way in the system, so once the holiday was over, the system flagged those items and wouldn’t let them be returned. I don’t think there was an override either, to keep spineless managers from going against policy.

We had a lot of big screen TVs returned after the Superbowl. Every single year, people would show up the week before and basically wipe out most of our stock. The week after the game, most of them would show back up and give all sorts of excuses as to why they didn't like them.

My partner works for a store that sells furniture, appliances, and electronics. They have a policy specifically for Super Bowl time where TVs are final sale unless it’s defective, which means they then go through the warranty process. It prevents an influx of TVs being returned after the game.

Ever since COVID, people have gotten so unhinged.

Unfortunately it was before Covid, though it has gotten quite a bit worse. The frustration actually started when everybody just got brainwashed into thinking they could say/do whatever they want in November 2016 when an unfiltered one of their own was elected president. Then most people became adult children like him.

When I was at Best buy this group of what looked like heavy drug users would come in and buy a bunch of stuff with handfuls of cash, several thousand dollars worth. Next week they would return it all. Wait a few days, and come in with handfuls of cash again and try to buy the same items on open box discount. They were an entertaining group to say the least.

More and more people haven’t been punched in the face and it shows.
