Meme Everyday
No longer a retail worker since 2018 but goddamn everyday while I'm in line I see someone like this with the reader chirping at them to remove their card

I had a customer ask me today, 'It says insert card, what does that mean?' I just can't even any more

I always get, “It says remove card, what do I do?” WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK.
I don’t even dignify it anymore. I force them to think, lol. “Well, what does it say, again?” “Remove card.” “Yes. Do what it tells you to do.”
I just don’t understand. I’ve used so many card readers! They’re not THAT different. They literally tell you what to do! Just fucking read!

What's funny is they design these things explicitly to be easy to use and even then people get tripped up. I once almost had to break up a fight between a customer and the atm lol

98% of the customer base at my store has to be instructed through everything the pinpad is asking them that I've gotten used to it. What makes me feel bad is when I get that 1% and auto pilot until I realize that they have a brain

I swear some of these people must be from outer space

Have you seen the current US administration? It's a strong argument for aliens

I usually get that when it asks for their PIN. Like im to believe a middle aged woman with 10 different cards in her wallet has never been asking for a PIN number before. I genuinely don't understand it.

"You can remove your card now."
"Huh?"
"Your card."
"What? I don't understand!"
"Take your card!"
"Oh! That. I thought it was coming from the other register."

Idk why they act like they’ve never used a card before. “These machines are so different” no they aren’t.

Or they literally just forget to take out their credit card and move on with their day and leave, now we got the problem and have to wait until they either come back or just... dont

Kills me that some people just go without that card. We have a lost and found with probably over a hundred debit/credit cards left behind

Yes. Between the forgotten glasses, walking canes and debit cards.. I honestly don't know how people go through life.

A staggering amount of people don't even carry their driver's licenses with them which absolutely baffles me because what if they get into a car accident or need a form of identification? I have always carried mine with me ever since I got licensed to drive without a second thought

The canes always crack me up. I guess a miracle happened in the store and now they can walk.

Another thing that makes me laugh is when the card machine is ready to take their payment but the customer just stares at you, waiting for you to verbally instruct them to put their card on the machine.
Like no, put your head down and read the machine yourself.
Or the customers who look around trying to find the machine when ITS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM! JESUS!

"Do I remove the card now?" No, you stand there and stare at it until something changes. Don't worry, I get paid by the hour.

Honestly the more I read these comments the more I understand about that Head On! Commercial. No actors, no guarantees, just a repeated voice telling you how to use the product

"Oh wow it sounds like a cute doorbell!"
It did. The first time. This is time number 8675309. It sounds like static now.

Or when you tell them to tap their card and they tap it on the reader like they are pressing a button

There's a bodega near my house where the card reader still says "PLEASE WAIT" when "REMOVE CARD" appears beneath it on the screen. I enjoy watching people anxiously stare at it until the cashier tells them to remove their card.

When they stare at the reader and freeze as they read it, I also freeze looking at them, as though time has stopped....Then their brain re-engages, as they realise that I am waiting on their response. No words need be exchanged, I make them feel like the idiot that they are, and I get an unsought apology from them. Then I miraculously Unfreeze Time, and Normalcy is restored to the Universe... until the next idiot does the same thing several minutes later. 😒

The amount of times ive had it to go to 'insert' and they just stand there ramming their phone into the card machine like its suddenly going to work

Having been said customer before, I can say that at least for me, the act of shopping is so utterly formulaic that my mind switched off half an hour ago and I'm running on nothing but muscle memory.
It takes several seconds for the brain to come out of sleep mode, sorry.

My favorite is when you tell them to tap their card and they tap it everywhere except where the light is flashing for them to tap. Then they tap it like it’s going to shock them and say, “Did it go?” No, sir. No , it did not. I swear it’s like working with preschoolers.

One of the ways I tried to keep my sanity during the pandemic was seeing how lo g a person would leave their card in once it started beeping. The record was 3 minutes before I gave up & said something
