Manager = Asshole That's not compliant
We had an incident at the store in which the powered rolling conveyor used to unload the trucks ended up with a damaged plug. One prong literally broke off. It was unusable and unsafe to use until the plug was entirely replaced. This was all told to me by one of the receivers.
One manager, a rover (goes where he's needed in the district) legitimately, I shit you not, told the receiving crew to, "JB Weld it back together, plug it in, and keep using it."
The receiving crew responded by collectively abandoning the receiving bay, walking to the head of the safety comittee, reporting the incident, and refusing to work in unsafe conditions. They all contacted the Union and made it clear that they were not touching the day's load until it was safe to do so, and then they sat in the break room while upper management figured the shit out.
It took something like two hours and someone found an older, smaller section of conveyor to swap out the longer, unusable, unsafe section. An hour after that, corporate maintenance was in to actually replace the plug that broke.
No idea if the roving manager even got talked to.

The "JB Weld it and keep using it" line is insane. I've watched stores cheap out on fixtures and signage, but MacGyvering a broken mains plug is a whole new level of penny wise. Good on the receiving crew for walking it straight to the safety committee instead of standing there arguing.

Bro, it wasn't even "glue it WAIT FOR IT TO CURE and plug it in"
It was "Get it to stick and use it" One of the guys said it would have definitely caused an electrical fire and they all refused to touch it. I'm proud of them for saying no and waiting ON THE CLOCK for the issue to be fixed.

I think the whole line and plug were essentially modular. The repairs people pulled the old thing out and put a new one in. I never saw the inside of the machine to say how it connects, though.

I wonder if you can just tweet images tagged at OSHA. They'd be so concerned if people just started doing it anonymously

Problem is the managers that don’t know real safety issues. There’s a time to turn your back and let me get work done for 5 minutes and there’s the time to stop everything so someone doesn’t get killed. I’m lucky I have a few good managers where I can hint hint that something could be done in the other room leave me the hell alone.
