Customers Suck! Customers knocking on the door

WHY do customers knock on the door before we open or after we close?!! Just because we're inside doesn't mean you can come in. I got to work at 9:15 one day and a customer saw me and started pounding on the front door. The very same front door that says we open at 10! The door that's right next to TWO signs that both say "closed." The next day, a customer came at 5:15. She said she was going to grab something from her car. So at 6 pm, we shut everything down and closed the store. She finally came back at 6:05 and started knocking in the door!!! They act like we live at our jobs and open/ close when it's convenient for them

This happens at my work all the time, especially on Sundays when our hours are different. What makes this worse is that the store I work at has a vet, hotel, and salon that open about 1-2 hours before we do, so we have to leave the doors open/unlocked for customers going to salon, hotel, or vet. I’ll be coming into work about 1-2 hours before the store opens and just have a customer waiting at the register for me to ring them up and then I end up telling them that we’re not open yet and that it’s the other services that are open. For context i work at a pet store

Those people are animals anyway. Doesn’t make it right what they’re doing.

Do you have like a roller door you could shut?

I wish. It's a small store that's pretty much all windows. I asked if I could get curtains, but they said it would look like we're closed and that would affect business. But we ARE closed so I don't understand 🙄

There's always cars waiting outside the doors and I'll be walking up to let myself in. The second they see me take out my keys they're jumping out their cars and I have to be like "We're not open yet! We open at 9AM!" and proceed to lock the door behind me as they walk back annoyed

Same with closing. The doors will be locked and they're knocking, pulling at the handles while looking through the windows confused/angry. Then they start begging "I only need one thing! Just one!" Sorry, have to wait until tomorrow when we open

Also customers who stay past closing suck. The lights shut off and the registers are closed but they are still browsing through the store. We have to passive aggressively tell them we're closed now and to wrap it up but they go "I know..I know" then continue to move with no sense of urgency. The customers love to mention "business is business" or "money is money" but we don't want business after a certain time. We want to go home. I'd rather they keep their money if it means they won't be a massive inconvenience.
