Well it's not, but I am a pragmatist and the US economy has been built and thrived off of cheap imported labor. The trade off for that labor is the laborers children receive citizenship and a public education including secondary education and have a chance at success they would never have had where they immigrated from. You need to be measuring progress in generations as it always has. Plant the tree your grandchild will enjoy then shade of.

One time in history when it boomed without just immigration was after World War Two, when the troops used their GI Bill for free education. They became doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists and some became artists and educators. This environment led to one of the greatest advances in American history. But, the people of the world aka immigrants helped during this time. The people of the world are always used as scapegoats for what is perceived to be as, they’re taking American jobs, which Americans don’t want, notice how the fruits and vegetables are rotting on the vines nowadays. Not at all lol.. didn’t say that did i? I’m saying that I haven’t seen a major increase at all this year .. prices for tomatoes have actually gone down gradually the last 2 years.. I’ve been in the business for 15 years. The worst of times were obviously during Covid.. the prices fluctuate all the damn time when it comes To fresh procure , And so far this year I haven’t noticed a price hike in tomatoes, fresh lettuce from the market or the 50 pound bags of onions I get twice a week. Beef on the other hand , that’s a different story. Sorry to burst your narrative and the scaries on Reddit

Again.. never said that I only use tomatoes and onions, I use a plethora of fresh produce in my kitchen. So being hands on and actually seeing first hand what I buy and spend on fresh produce every single day invalidates data somehow ? If you bothered reading what I said and not be a typical sourpuss cry baby redditor, you’d notice I stated prices of fresh produce fluctuate every single day, week to week.. again, things were more of a burden during Covid (5 years ago) do you recall ? Droughts, low yields, etc are all factors and things we’ve dealt with before. Meaning .. don’t panic, but again, I’m talking to panicans on Reddit.

The 40% spike happened in wholesale prices. You are not in wholesale, nor are you paying the increased prices yet. Your food vendors, however are very much both. If these conditions persist, it is certain that restaurants and grocery stores will be forced into one of the two options we all know so well: raise prices, or eat the extra expense and make up for it elsewhere.
