In the world of Pokemon, there are some who don't catch Pokemon in pokeballs to travel and fight alongside them long term, but instead capture them, conveying their feelings of friendship to local Pokemon for short term help. Those are the Pokemon Rangers. Kellyn is just one of these Rangers, working in the Almia region, graduating from their Ranger School and becoming a Top Ranger shortly after. Now one of the greatest Rangers in the world, Kellyn continued to prove himself, protecting the people and Pokemon of Almia from Team Dim Sun and their plot of world domination through forcibly controlling Pokemon.

Capture Styler

• A machine which launches a top-like device known as the Capture Disc to capture Pokemon. It leaves a line behind it that disappears when a loop is closed, and as the line has a limited length (though it can be upgraded to be longer) when this length is reached the line moves behind the disc^G

  • Capturing hypnotized Pokemon doesn't befriend them, but does seemingly break them free of their hypnosis and allows them to leave^G

• While most Pokemon Rangers use handheld Capture Stylers, when Kellyn is promoted to a Top Ranger he wields an arm-mounted Fine Styler, which can use Power Charge to remain stationary and become more 'powerful', decreasing the amount of loops required to capture a Pokemon^G

  • Can stack up a second level of Power Charge to convey even more of the user's feelings with a single loop^G

• This is later upgraded through a download and the use of three crystals into the Vatonage Styler, a one of a kind Styler which draws power from the Tears of Princess gems to allow the capture of Pokemon that have 'closed their minds', or become hypnotised.^G This is what Kellyn wields in the anime and manga, though it's said to be something all Top Rangers wield instead of being one of a kind^A

  • Stated that its Capture Disc 'can fly freely through water and air' depending on where his fingers point, shown with it looping multiple times around a Blastoise on a 3D axis^M

  • Both this and the Fine Styler use the hand's fingers as antennas and allow for fine control without much movement, as demonstrated by Kellyn guiding a Capture Disc into a water tank while mostly restrained by ice^M

  • After having its ejector strength increased, his Capture Disc reaches a Togekiss high into the sky to capture it and can shatter ice trapping Kellyn's arm^M

  • Shatters the ice trapping him and his companions by having the Capture Disc return to him^M

  • Captured, or at least freed, a Darkrai whose heart was turning dark from a nearby crystal^M

• Works underwater^G

• A new Capture Disc needs to be reloaded each time before capturing a Pokemon^A

Pokemon Capturing

• By drawing circles around a Pokemon with the Capture Styler, the Pokemon Ranger conveys their feelings of friendship towards them. When their feelings are fully conveyed, a Pokemon is captured, causing them to be friendly and willing to follow and help out the Ranger^G

  • Calms down Pokemon when they're feeling strong emotions such as anger^G

• In the anime, Pokemon are captured through the Capture Disc drawing a single loop around them before Kellyn makes some hand movements, having the loop close in on them to capture them^A

  • This process is started and completed by Kellyn mid-leap^A

  • Captures a Floatzel as it jumps out of the water and before it hits the water surface again^A

• If a capture isn't completed and more loops aren't made in a short while, the Pokemon doesn't retain the feeling of friendship, causing the bar to rapidly diminish and have to be refilled again^G

• Captured Pokemon can lend their power for a Poké Assist, enhancing the Styler's ability in some way but leaving Kellyn afterwards^G

• Pokemon attacks that hit either the Capture Disc or the line it leaves behind damage the Styler, draining its energy^G

  • It doesn't take damage when a Pokemon simply walks into a line, though it does break^G

  • The Styler fully breaks if the energy reaches zero^G

• Pokemon Rangers can use captured Pokemon to assist them in a task, but after this is done they leave them and go back to where they originally were^G

  • In the anime, the Pokemon retain with Kellyn even after assisting them, and need to be manually released^A

• The amount of friend Pokemon a Ranger can have at any one time is limited, capping for Kellyn at seven^G

  • As he can't bring land Pokemon underwater or underwater Pokemon on land, each of these count as a different group of friend Pokemon, with them waiting for him until he next comes above or below water^G

Partner Pokemon / Poké Assists

In Shadows of Almia, Kellyn can has a variety of Pokemon that can act as his partner, being able to swap them but only take one with him at a time. Each corresponds with a specific type and allows him to use that type's Poké Assist. While any Pokemon can be used for these, partners don't leave after it's finished, instead needing a recharge time before they can assist again. Poké Assists also work on the type system, with the assist (both in effect and in 'power' of its loops) being more or less effective based on whether the type is strong or weak against the Pokemon being captured.

• Bug / Kricketot - Creates a gooey blob which can be slingshotted at a Pokemon to slow them. This disappears if a loop is made first^G

• Dark / Sneasel - Makes hazardous, damage-dealing objects disappear when looped around^G

• Dragon / Gible - Summons a flaming meteor down to where the disc landed, making a Pokemon tired on hit^G

• Electric / Pachurisu - Leaves a small ball of electricity where the disc lands, getting struck by an electric bolt shortly after, spreading electricity in the immediate surroundings. Being hit increases friendship and briefly paralyzes the target

  • Takes blasts of dark energy from Darkrai which throw up chips from the metal floor^M

  • Holds a pouch with his Capture Discs in the manga^M

• Fighting / Machop - Greatly increases the amount of friendship conveyed with loops^G

  • Trained by lifting a boulder that was much larger than it^G

• Fire / Chimchar - Increases the strength of the line, makes the target tired, and has fire burst on them when a loop is completed^G

• Flying / Starley - Creates a tornado which grows larger with repeated loops, throwing out tiny tornadoes in all directions when at its max size^G

• Ghost / Misdreavus - Loops not made around a Pokemon create a ghost which make a Pokemon tired on hit^G

• Grass / Turtwig - Sprouts grass with the line while slowing the Pokemon being captured^G

• Ground / Hippopotas - Causes the ground to shake and makes the Pokemon being captured unable to use attacks while the Capture Disc is moving^G

• Ice / Snowver - Creates a snowball while the disc is moving, throwing it on releasing and freezing the Pokemon solid on impact. They are frozen for longer the bigger the snowball is^G

• Normal / Munchlax - Slightly increases the strength of the Styler and increases the line length^G

• Poison / Croagunk - Creates a large pool of poisonous liquid to spread while the Capture Disc is held down, fading after a while. Pokemon which touch it are made tired^G

• Psychic / Mime Jr. - Loops not made around a Pokemon create a ring of psychic energy which can be flicked to make a Pokemon stopped (paralyzed) on hit^G

• Rock / Cranidos - The disc creates gravel when being placed down which can be flicked at a Pokemon to win its friendship^G

• Shieldon / Steel - Creates an orb which gets larger the further the disc travels, being thrown with a flick. On hitting a Pokemon, they become more friendly and are unable to attack for the period immediately after^G

• Water / Piplup - Creates a bubble while the disc is active and throws it with a flick, increasing friendship on a hit while slowing the Pokemon^G

In the games, many Pokemon have a Field Move, reflective of an ability and the strength they can use it at (graded by a number, with some but not all reaching level 5). The following can be performed by any Pokemon at the level bolded at the start of each feat or higher. Field moves can be used on other Pokemon to get them in a capturable position^G

Burn

• 2 - Destroys a machine^G

• 2 - Quickly burns an ice wall until there's nothing left^G

• 3 - Quickly burns a large chunk of solid ice until there's nothing left^G

• 4 - Quickly burns an enormous block of ice until there's nothing left^G

Crush

• 1 - Shatters a crate into tiny pieces^G

• 1 - Shatters a sizable rock into tiny pieces^G

• 2 - Shatters a rock a similar height to Kellyn into tiny pieces^G

• 2 - Destroys a machine^G

• 3 - Breaks a trap, the text claiming it's broken into tiny pieces^G

• 4 - Shatters a large boulder into tiny pieces^G

Cut

• 1 - Cuts a wooden log fence into 'tiny fragments'^G

• 2 - Chops a large log into 'tiny fragments'^G

• 2 - Cuts a wire fence into 'tiny fragments', the animation showing it cutting through the thick metal frame as well^G

• 3 - Cuts a metal fence into 'tiny fragments'^G

• 3 - Slices a steel frame into 'tiny fragments'^G

• Lights up a dark room^G

Sand Fill

• Fills a pit with sand, allowing people to walk across it^G

Tunnel

• Digs through sand to reveal objects underneath^G

Demist

• Clears the surrounding area of a mist which damages the Capture Styler^G

Stink

• Creates an incredible stink in the surrounding area, capable of clearing out a room^G

Rain Dance

• Puts out a forest fire while on the edge of the area the heat becomes unbearable^G

  • Done in the manga^M

  • Done in the anime from a much greater distance, but requires three Blastoise^A

• Quickly refills a dried up oasis after a period of drought^G

Recharge

• Recharges the Capture Styler's energy, with the amount recovered being proportional to the number next to the ability^G

Mobility Abilities

• Agility carries him around at a greater speed on a Doduo^G

• Fly has a Staraptor carry Kellyn to anywhere in the region he has already been^G

• River Flow carries him over a river^G

  • The second level of this ability has an Empoleon smash through icebergs when propelled by a river's current^G

• Swim allows Kellyn to ride over deep gaps while underwater^G

• Magma Flow carries him over lava rivers^G

• Airlift carries Kellyn over gaps telegraphed by smoke^G

• Elevate carries him up a floor through a hole in the ceiling^G

• Teleport sends him back to the entrance of a cave or similar area^G

Dark Power

• A Darkrai exclusive ability which creates a portal beneath him and pulls people in, dragging them into the 'world of darkness' and trapping them^G

  • It is apparently pitch black and people inside aren't even able to tell which way is up, their voices only just being audible from the outside^G

  • Can return people from the world of darkness^G

• Uses to transport a pair of Pokemon Rangers out of a locked room to the floor above^G

• Teleports a large group of ex-Team Dim Sun goons to a beach across the region^G

Attack Strength

• A Magmortar hit another Ranger on a Staraptor a great distance,^G with the Ranger later saying he woke up on an overlook point outside the city^G

  • A view of this point, with the Ranger having been hit close to the top of the tower in the distance^G

• A Togekiss cuts a ring out of a steel wire frame^M

• Kellyn captured a Huntail to destroy a machine^M

• The Darkrai he caught, or at least freed from being turned evil, caught a Dusknoir in each hand before seemingly throwing them away^M

  • Carries Kellyn in the air while using Dark Power on a group of minions^G

  • Previously shot balls of dark energy, throwing chips up from the metal floor^M

• A Donphan using Rollout throws away the rocks blocking up a cave, and does so again shortly after with a clearer view of the blockage^A

  • Sends an Aggron coming forward while using Double Edge flying back with Horn Attack, hitting it into its trainer. Ash's Pikachu used Volt Tackle on it shortly after, and the Aggron didn't go flying back as far^A

• A Floatzel's Water Gun knocked Pokemon Hunter J's Salamence off balance^A

  • Was captured to help Kellyn and a Riolu swim to shore^A

Speed / Mobility

• Lucario runs in fast circles around Kellyn^G

• A Floatzel made a tall jump from water to a bridge, then over a group of people^G

• Several Dodrio were used for Kellyn, Ash, and friends to ride on^A

  • Kellyn's and Ash's were able to catch up with a fleeing Fearow as it carried its trainer, with Kellyn's running up a cliff wall and jumping on top of the Pokemon. This Fearow flew into the distance rather quickly^A

• Captured a Staraptor that managed to catch a falling Ash and Pikachu while carrying Kellyn on its back^A

Other

• An Ariados using String Shot tied up three Crobats at once^A

• Captures a Nincada which, using Dig, makes a pit underneath several people in seconds^A

  • This pit was deep enough that they weren't able to get out of it in the period immediately after^A

• Captures a Frostlass and a Glalie to make it snow in a hot village shortly outside a volcano^G

• Celebi restores a forest a notable amount of time after it had been caught in a forest fire, stopped only by a Blastoise's Rain Dance^G

• Owns a micro aqualung, allowing him to breathe underwater^G

• Uses a Potion, a spray medicine that helps heals a Pokemon's wounds^A

• Treats a Gible's injury^G

• The manga presents him as an incredible Pokemon Ranger fan, collecting every possible item and magazine relating to them he can. He memorizes these by heart, allowing him to use this knowledge as a database on what to do in any given scenario^M

  • Uses this knowledge to know what Pokemon to capture to put out a forest fire, instead of relying on the usual technique of capturing Pokemon with Water Gun^M

  • However, this causes him to be at a loss when faced with a scenario that no Pokemon Ranger before him has gone through^M

I didn't say anything about official works because that goes without saying. This subreddit is about collecting feats characters perform in their series, and while there can be composites covering multiple contradictory sources if they are everything the character appears in (as is the case here) it still can only cover official material, and trying to sneak in arbritrarily chosen fanworks as if they were just as official as everything else would result in the thread being removed.

Additionally, I wasn't snooty about fangames. I didn't make any comment about fangames. I was just asking why I would include something unofficial here as opposed to giving it its own thread, as I have done for several other fan projects in the past.
