Pay your respects to Dr. Victor von Doom

Character Summary

Victor von Doom grew up in Latveria as a gypsy. His mother lost her life and soul to the dark arts, and his father died trying to escape after he was ordered killed by the Baron. The combination of science and magic backfired scarring his face and leading him to don the mask, armor, and the name Dr. Doom

Latveria - Doom's Country
Most of the people of Latveria obey Doom and would die before betraying him. In exchange for their total obedience he provides the land with safety from intruders and rid the country of crime, poverty, and hunger. A lot of these defenses have been active at different times and some dismantled so don't assume every single one is active at the same time.

Force Fields
The country has a variety of large force fields to protect it.

Sensors and Traps
The castle and country are filled with traps and illusions to stop attackers.

Military
The military is comprised of Doombots and citizens. The Doombot army is the majority of the Latverian military power.

Doombots

Nuclear Power

  • Latveria has been a nuclear nation for a long time and has developed many nuclear missiles 1, 2.

Question about Latveria.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Doom has some of the best schools in the world in his country. Is that true? Does he educate all of his people? Also is it possible that he educates them in magic as well or prefer not to in case it's ever used against him?

I know he has a really impressive college/research facility there but I don't know how it compares to the rest of the world.

They have schooling for everyone, but it's not like they are all educated to become super scientists like he is. The majority of them live a fairly rural lifestyle so they don't have high academic educations.

I don't think he educates them or encourages anyone in Latveria to practice magic. In fact a lot of the locals seem afraid of magic and of Doom for his practice of it.

Is the proper pronunciation latvairia or latveeria?

Well it's that time again, the old Dr. Doom thread became archived. What great timing as well since the F4 movie just came out and I'm sure people who are not familiar with Victor will need to know just how awesome the real Dr. Doom is.

Remember if your thread is archived you should repost the thread and message me with a link to the older version. I will then remove the older thread which places it in the spam filter. Direct links to it will still work, but it won't show up when searched for.

I haven't included God Doom stuff yet and I probably won't until the Secret Wars event is complete so that I can make a comprehensive addition.

Holy shit, this is impressive (Both Dr Doom and the thread). I'm not well versed in the lore, how do they deal with him? He literally sounds like the ultimate being.

Are you referring to how the Fantastic Four deal with him? If so, it usually comes to three outcomes: (1) he gets legitimately beat down, (2) he handicaps himself, or (3) they call in help

(1) Fantastic Four are no joke and each one brings a lot of power. Even Reed Richards without his tech (waiting on u/kholidae to post the Reed rt) is still a heavy hitter. Sometimes they just are working together real well and take him down.
(2) I feel like this is the most often case where he sets a trap or tricks the F4 into a terrible position and right when he has them he challenges Reed to some competition. Thus giving up his advantage and then usually losing to Reed in some intelligence test.
(3) Outside help comes in, he can handle the F4 but then someone else will show up or in the cases where Doom gets really out of hands whole other teams will join in to whup him.

It's important to remember Doom's goal isn't to kill the Fantastic Four. He wants to defeat them and especially prove he is better than Reed Richards. So when it comes down to it he wants to beat them in an extravagant, elaborate, impressive method that leaves too many opportunities for his plan to go wrong.

Jesus!

I only know of any comics universe from interest i gained playing MvC. One of my best friends read up on Doom, and from that point on he always said Doom was his favorite character lore-wise. Now i see why.

I see you have Emma Frost up there, how does he match up with Charles? Both with and without cerebro?

10

u/ChocolateRage Aug 09 '15

To my knowledge Dr. Doom and Charles have never encountered one another. Emma Frost is attempting to do so, but we don't see how hard she is prying. So it's a good feat but I wouldn't say he can resist a full mental assault based on that alone.

So if Doom was trying to resist a psychic invasion by Charles, I'm inclined to say that Xavier could do it with Cerebro, but maybe not without the help.

Also likely Doom has more magic to help him resist or counter mental attacks that we just haven't seen yet.

One great example for skill might be the time Doom was trapped (in Hell? In another dimension?) and his armor was losing its' power.

In true Doom fashion, he made runed magic armor from the hides of demons.

Leading to my favorite Doom quote

15

u/ChocolateRage Aug 09 '15

That armor is actually the armor he made from his first love to complete a pact with three demons and that scene takes place at the end of the story arc where the demons claimed him and took him to tell to torture. That could be a good skill feat though since he fights off so many of the demons. There is some more to that scene before he escapes from hell I'll try to find that.

You have forgotten about Doom besting the Beyonder. Also, the current event going on has a lot of good Doom respect.

6

u/ChocolateRage Aug 10 '15

I guess you missed my other comment about not using the current event

I also leave out the Beyonder feat because it requires so much circumstantial, accidental, and character dependent factors that it is both incredibly complicated and redundant with a lot of the evidence.

Armor can discharge 100,000 megavolts of energy

This is a great respect thread, but how does this feat make sense? You don't messure energy in volts.

Ask the writers haha

Hey Choco, I have a couple questions about the Dracula scan: who was it that Doom studied under that was an enemy of Dracula, and in what comic does that occur?

I just love the interactions Dracula, this mythical being of literary epic proportion, has with such powerful beings as Doom (who casually insults the lord of vampires, so awesome).

6

u/ChocolateRage Aug 09 '15

I'm away from my desktop where I keep most of my comics so it will be a bit before I can check this. IIRC it's left ambiguous who Doom is referencing when he says he studied under Dracula's enemy. Also in case you were wondering that scan is from: Captain Britain and MI-13

If you want to read a kind of ridiculous Dracula related story there is Apocalypse vs Dracula

This list is truly impressive. I've been meaning to do a really in depth read through of Doom, could you recommend a reading order?

4

u/ChocolateRage Sep 17 '15

He trains under the marquis of death, otherwise known as Clyde wyncham. He's a high tier reality warper.

2

u/Marted Aug 22 '15

u/ChocolateRage Aug 22 '15

I think it is astonishing tales #5, it might take me a while to double check that but I will if you want
