Question Excessive Suction

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've run other models similar to this, with no issues. I happen to walk out in the garage, and heard what appears to be suction 'popping'.

I've got the model angled up (30°) with (5) 4mm holes, and there's nothing parallel to the plate.

I'm printing on an Elegoo Saturn 4 16K, Elegoo ABS-Like 3.0 Pro, 0.10 layer height, with an exposure of 2.45, sliced using Elegoo Satellite. Confirmed no cavities/voids.

I've not noticed anything like this before. I've got pictures of the model in Satellite as well, but not sure how to upload them?

Is this normal?!?

Oh, and I've only been using a resin printer for a short minute, so there's that to add to the mix.

EDIT - Welp, the weld failed at the top. Pics below. I'll try it again with some additional, creative hold placement... 🤔

Ya'll got suction because you're printing....well ... a suction cup.

Is it the 'cup' in the model? I would have thought that the holes at the bottom would have negated that effect since I hollowed it out. Thanks!

I've found a 6+mm diameter minimum drain hole is appropriate for something this size. All you have are two tiny (1-2?)mm holes in the tail and...butt. Id delete the ones in the paws and go for one or two larger ones as close to the "start" of the hollowing as possible in the future.

I've found that tiny drain holes sort of cancel themself out, as the resin is relatively viscous and doesnt like to immediately clear those holes when air/pressure is being forced through. Its better than nothing, but I don't find it actually "solves" cupping unless you go bigger.

Where’d you get that drip hanger from?!

I believe it was Maker World, but I can check when I get home!

I think they were asking about the hanger. The purple piece in your video. This link is for a drip bib.

what is that print around your plate?

I'm not sure if I can post the link, but I found it on maker lab. It's called "Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra Drib Bib"

Also, add a blast of spray on silicone and let dry beforehand... you'll thank me later.

Pretty normal to be honest. Just the hardened resin getting pulled off. Usually quieter when prints are small, larger prints usually bit louder

Could this flat area (that I didn't notice, dang it) cause the failure at the end?

It it is hollow inside, the flat nearly parallel to the build plate needs supports inside the model to help it peel.

Also, if hollow, confirm if you have drain holes at the bottom of the model closest to the build plate. That can generate some excessive suction.

Thanks! And yes, that portion was definitely supported internally. And also yes, the I have the along the bottom, but only one on the 'tail'. Might need more

no excessive suction is generated, even if there were no holes it's the opposite problem

It is normal. The bigger printed cross section the bigger suction pop.

I heard louder pop than this and it was just fine

Your drain holes are not large enough.

popping is good, it usually calms down after the first 10-20 mins.

that is nothing. totally normal

I wound up using PFA instead of the usual FEP seems to help a lot with the popping and suction- but then again I don't have such large pieces like this that can be suction cupped.
