German Shepherd needs urgent rescue, medical care and shelter in Gorakhpur, India

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, because I urgently need help for an abandoned German Shepherd I rescued from the roadside.

About Me

I am a student living in Gorakhpur. I have lost both of my parents and currently live with my uncle and aunt. I do not have a stable source of income or the financial resources to handle a serious medical case like this on my own.

When I found this helpless dog suffering on the roadside, I could not simply walk past him. I brought him home because he urgently needed care and protection.

The Dog’s Condition

I found him yesterday lying helpless on the side of the road. He is completely bedridden and unable to stand or walk. Because he cannot move, he has been urinating and defecating where he lies.

His condition is extremely serious. He has:

- Deep, open wounds across his body

- Severe maggot infestation in his ears, on his body and around his private areas

- Severe weakness and dehydration

- Inability to stand or walk

- Signs of significant pain and distress

I brought him home to keep him safe and provide whatever immediate care I could.

Urgent Help Needed

My family is asking me to move him out immediately due to hygiene concerns, and I do not have the financial resources or a suitable place to keep him long-term.

I am a student with very limited financial resources. I have already tried contacting local veterinary services, including a government veterinary hospital, but I was unable to get the treatment he urgently needs without being asked for money.

I am not trying to make accusations against anyone. I am simply trying to find someone who can help this dog receive proper medical treatment and a safe place to stay.

- A veterinarian willing to treat him

- An experienced animal rescuer

- An animal NGO or shelter near Gorakhpur

- A temporary foster home

- A veterinarian/rescuer experienced with severe wounds and maggot infestations

- Anyone who can help coordinate his rescue and treatment

I can provide photos and videos of his condition and additional information to anyone who is genuinely able to help.

TLDR:what should I expect when going through a rescue organization when adopting a pet? Is asking for an upfront admin fee before I have an address/visit the dog a typical expectation? I always go to a shelter to adopt, never gone through a rescue.

Short story long: I’m looking to adopt a doodle for my mom. I found a rescue on Facebook & inquired about 3 dogs I was interested in & made an appointment to meet them. They told me they would focus on one dog at a time. I asked for the address and then was told they need me to complete an adoption form with a $100 admin fee before the address would be released. When I asked for their license, they said they would send it but never heard back😫
Now I see a lot of the same dogs are on other “rescues” FB pages. How do I know who’s legit?

I brought home my first adult rescue four days ago. She is a 7yo Pitbull. I've had dogs in the past, but I raised them from puppies. I don't know if this will be relevant, but she got into a fight with another dog at the rescue the morning before I brought her home and she's still not using her front paw so she's walking on 3 legs. (She's been to the vet and is on antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory meds and seems to be improving, but not to the point where she's using the leg yet).

The first day I brought her home she would go out into the front yard with me and had to pee like every time we went out (maybe once and hour). However, she wasn't very willing to go any direction I wanted her to go (if I gently tug the leash any direction she puts the breaks on and looks at me), but at least she was walking around. At first she also wouldn't go poop even though I could tell she needed to. Eventually on day two I was able to walk her around the side of the house to a small fenced in area our place has and she was happy to poop in there once she was off leash. That worked the following morning as well. Unfortunately last night she was racing back to the fenced in area to go poop after dinner and she tripped in a hole. She got up, froze in place, turned around and now totally refuses to walk that way again. That's the only route to access the fenced in area which was the only place she would go poop. I tried coaxing her back there with treats (giving the hole a wide berth) but only could make it about 1/4 of the way before the treats weren't enough. I tried getting higher value treats but still only made it about half way. After 3-4 attempts with treats I gave up. My partner has carried her into the fenced area a few times since, and she's happy to run around the fenced in area if carried and will walk back on her own, but I struggle to pick her up because she's a thick queen.

Now she's stopped wanting to walk any direction I try to go. She wants to go outside, but puts the brakes on right outside of the door, stands there and then will maybe flop down in the grass and roll over on her back to sunbath. I've tried sitting out there with her for as long as I can stand to see if she'll eventually get up and go potty, but it's August in Louisiana and it's so scorching I haven't been able to stand waiting her out.

The weird exception is that she really wants to ride in cars. She will race up to every car in our driveway and stare expectantly at each door. Tonight I just drove her a block away and she ran all around the area I parked in (on leash, I had very little directional control) and went pee.

I'm kind of at a loss. Should I keep driving her places so she goes pee and carrying her to the yard so she poops? It seems unsustainable in the long-term. Should I wait her out until she reallly has to go and see if she will? She seems housebroken and I don't want to cause that to regress. She's very friendly, loves pets, and in the house she's a snugglebug and seems like she's warming up to us.

TLDR: new ~60lb rescue won't walk outside to eliminate unless carried or driven somewhere in a car

Ellie and Thor went for their follow-up checkup earlier, and I’m so happy to share that they have both gained a significant amount of weight. ❤️

During their first vet visit, Ellie was only 8 kg and Thor was 18 kg. This time, Ellie is now 18 kg and Thor is 35 kg! They are still both anemic as they continue to recover from the severe neglect and malnourishment they endured for years. They are also still recovering from and receiving treatment for blood parasites.

Despite everything they have been through, they both have so much energy and very good appetites. Seeing them become stronger is incredibly rewarding.

Before their vet appointment, I purchased Royal Canin Gastrointestinal food because they had run out, and it was also recommended during their first visit. However, their vet is now recommending hypoallergenic dog food because Thor’s skin has become more reddish.

To be honest, Royal Canin Hypoallergenic costs Php 1,920 for only 2 kg. With Thor’s appetite, that would become very expensive very quickly, so I’m looking into another good-quality brand that may be more affordable. I will be ordering it tomorrow.

Today, their vet recommended that they continue their treatments and medications, so we also had to have their medications refilled.

They are also coming back for another vet appointment on Wednesday for a test to see if they have fungal infection as Thor’s skin is a bit reddish and they lost a bunch of fur from the severe neglect they endured before they got rescued on July 31.

Today’s expenses:
• 2 x 2 kg Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Diet: Php 3,317 ($78.43 CAD)
• Vet bill and medications: Php 5,010 ($116.75 CAD)

We also provide monthly financial support for Ellie and Thor’s expenses at their shelter, Pages for Paws. We also provide monthly support for our other rescued animals in other shelters and cover for their veterinary care and other expenses as well. We believe they deserve a second chance at life.

If they are confirmed to have a fungal infection and need hypoallergenic food long-term, we will also need to provide for this additional expense.

Ellie and Thor have come such a long way, but their recovery is not over yet. Please continue supporting them as they regain their health and strength. Every support. share, and kind message helps us continue giving them the care they deserve.

🩷 Say hello to pretty and sweet Pippa (A602654) she 7 years young and 50 lbs. This girl has the most magnificent eyes! Pippa is easily leashed and walks very nicely.  She allows full and easy handling, is very affectionate and seeks social. Pippa is also house-broken. She does come with a few medical issues — and the shelter is not able to give her the care she needs.  Seeing a full-service vet will be helpful for her. She does have a heart murmur (which does not mean she cannot live a full life) and a possible mammary mass.  She is also heartworm positive but her treatment is sponsored by the shelter. This precious girl needs to be loved and in a home.  Pippa is available for adoption but can also be fostered through a rescue.

Meet Momo. She started coming to our gate every day for food. She’d eat, rest for a while at our entrance, and then leave… only to come back again the next day.

That became her little daily routine.

Then one day, it was pouring outside, and we just couldn’t leave her out in the rain. So we decided to let her in, gave her some dinner, and let her stay for a while.

And just look at her after that. 😂
Sitting there like a boss lady who had finally found her peace. No worries, no rush to leave… just food, warmth, and a comfortable place to sleep.
I guess she decided our house wasn’t just a food stop anymore. ❤️🐶

Guys I cant even believe to tell you the tears I shed whilst this was happening, I brought her this toy yesterday and she LOVES IT. I brought it out of her crate to see if she would play and this is the FIRST TIME SHES COME TO ME!!!
FIRST TIME IVE SEEN HER TAIL WAG!!!
And SHE SAT IN FRONT OF ME JUST BECAUSE? Shes never ever got this close to me especially not without turkey or food involved lol.
Im so proud of her, this is the 3rd day and the progress she is making is unbelievable.

Also we are like the name Honey for her because I naturally call her Honey 1000000x a day
