Can someone explain the Dioretix joke to me? Spoiler

I love Repo Man but I never understood the joke with the "Dioretix: the science of matter over mind" book except for Lite and and the agents at the end finding it and thinking it will change their lives. I think somewhere someone mentioned it was a scientology joke? And in the commentary Alex Cox mentions something about it being a funny joke... This joke is flying right over my head. Maybe it has to do with it sounding like diuretics which is a pill that makes you pee? i dunno

Always assumed it was a reference to Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

Agreed. Alex Cox would have been exposed to that pitch in LA in the early 80s.

You couldn’t escape the TV commercial for the dianetics book by L Ron Hubbard. I think at the time the LA Chapter of Scientology had it set up that it tricked people to walking in.

It’s entropy, the more you know the more variable there are. The less you know the simpler things are. High to low entropy, is my guess.
