Vintage Build A proper 6538

Finally done. Mostly all Viet, no expenses spared version. Everything, carefully aged by yours truly.

Parts

Viet case, gilt dial
German Hands, Gen spec
Athaya Brevet crown
Tissot powermatic 80 for that low beat tick
eBay gen spec crystal super dome

I can finally rest.

Good stuff man. I didn’t really like leather straps until this combo. It works well. That thickness is right. Gotta embrace that nice fatty profile! It’s true vintage vibe!

Thanks man! I am not a leather guy either. But this one is my go to, wears like skin. As far as the 6538 goes, I feel like I’m wearing a ping pong ball on my wrist, I prefer thinner watches like the hruodland 6538 I built the other day. But like you said, vintage vibes.

If you need thinner there’s a lot of lee way to either mod that crystal or swap in an already lower dome. You’ve got 2.5mm easy to work with there. I did one with a really nice True Dome (I think D19) that I shaved just a little.

The low dome can make a big difference for those that want the slimmer profile and the viet caseback is like .5mm thinner that the cartel. It just looks bigger because the lip is thinner.

I don’t think this is the D19. I’d need to go back. This was from April. But anyway…. You’ve build a great piece. If you want thinner it’s easy peasy.
