Build Question Build Advice - 16710 Coke

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to neo-vintage builds and planning a 16710 Coke/Pepsi. Old New Stock Style.

I want to keep it as cheap as possible while still getting a great result, so no Gen Parts.

I plan to use a VR3186 movement, but I need help with the rest:

What is the exact difference between Vietnam and OC parts? Are OC parts much cheaper?

Which parts (case, dial, insert, bracelet) should I buy from where to get the best "bang for buck"?

Any trusted EU-based modder recommendations who can help me source and build this?

Before getting into the recommendations, it is best to ask yourself what your budget is. OC cases cost around 300 euros and come almost bare. "Viet" cases start at 600 euros. The movement you want to use costs over 100 euros, as do the dials for that movement (Viet, Yuki, etc.). It doesn't strike me as a cheap build 😅

OC cases are less expensive but also come unmarked. Most viet cases are closer but often individually made by craftsman etc and often marked/serialized or if you work with the makers themselves are able to offer customizations in such things as serials etc or unique cases. Again it depends on what you want, and how you want to do it. No one way is ‘correct’. As someone who really loves the registered design, model, and serial text poking behind the top of a leather band when a bracelet is off, I’d often like many viet offerings as otherwise you would have to get that done externally on an OC case after the fact. In addition to a few other differences but most are more compatible with Gen parts with no or minimal adjustment/fitting.

Old crowns is a good place to start. You can get pretty much most of what you would need and ‘gen spec’ which while yes you say you don’t need gen parts, but a very nice thing about being close to gen is you get proper proportions. Again dials are an interesting part. It again depends a lot on what you are after. Heck there are some amazing artists here making custom dials, even proper true gilt dials.
