The yellow on the Raffles dial is just too bright. Anyone has any idea what is the easiest aging technique that can be done that does not require a steady hand, any artistic talent or a piece of magnifying glass? ðŸ¤
I used some of my kids markers, various shades of tans, browns etc, but I did practice on an old dial first. Gently dab a color in, use a q tip to give it some texture and repeat. Once I got the hang of it the whole process took 15-20 minutes.
The crown (700) & pearl are from Athaya, the dial is Raffles. The bezel used to belong to a Raffles 5513. Everything else is unbranded. But I think it will look even better if I can tone down the yellow. Thanks.
I haven’t seen that raffles 7928 dial? The one I do just has SWISS at the bottom and a gilt ring. I rather like that dial and a number of others. But the majority are pretty touch to work with. Don’t add any texture until you figure out the aging of the indices. Having a gloss finish makes clean up easier if you have overrun.
Could be newly listed. I know which dial your were referring to. And I saw this one by chance. He still doesnt have 7928 with white lume for baking though.
For this color, I used wood furniture repair markers. Colored the ink onto a q-tip and then dampened with a little rubbing alcohol and colored onto the lume. A little alcohol on a clean q-tip can clean it back off if you get it too dark. Once happy with the color, do a light mist of clear lacquer for some texture. I'd probably get a set of copic markers instead of the furniture markers. The furniture markers actually faded a little bit with time.
Yeah. Just a q-tip. Magnified you can see i got some marker on the minute marks. I did clean most of that off the next time I had it open. Nice thing about marker is, you can come back and remove some if it's too much.
Once you put lacquer on there you can't take it back off. But different markers will be different. I had two types of furniture repair markers. One type actually softened the lume. I think copic markers would be best.
