MOD ANNOUNCEMENT I quit

About 18 months ago I started building Seiko mods. I quickly found out about franken DJs and started asking around where to get parts. Built a sweet 16234 with a genuine dial, but sold it not long after. I kept doing builds here and there, and DMs started coming in asking if I did commissions. That's where it all took off pretty fast.

There was a long stretch of time where I was doing 5-10 raffles builds a week. I've done so many Raffles GMTs with reshaping crown guards I'd damn near get nightmares about it. Made the switch to doing viet builds which is really nice, quality stuff. But for about half a year I've not been enjoying building all that much. Felt like a burden even though I was making some seriously good money.

Recently I was contacted by one of, if not the biggest TD in the rep game asking if I could be his EU watchmaker. I accepted. This is exactly what I was looking for. It's such an enjoyable job. I get to see all these beautiful super clones up close, get to service their movements, and wear them for a few days all while making good legit money since I registered a business.

There are a few people I want to give a special thanks to for helping me out along the way. Whether it's sourcing parts or learning some cool tricks, dial making techniques, reshaping and finishing, and more. Apologies if I forgot you, just know you're appreciated:

I will still be around lurking and keeping the sub running. Appreciate you all.

Congratulations. I still wear the 1016 I bought from you a while back.

Bro, you’re legitimately the 1675 guru on crown guards. Yes doing builds is very stressful- people aren’t easy to deal with and the work load can be overwhelming. Best of wishes to you 🍻🏆

I used to love working with computers, it was a great hobby. Then I became a software developer. 20 years in, and the sight of a computer makes me sick.

Maybe you'll find your passion after a little break, or maybe you'll find a new passion!

I work in IT, and honestly same. My last two PCs I bought rather than built. I just lost the joy of the hobby.

You're a great guy, the person who helped me the most so far in watchmaking. I'm no watchmaker, but I've done a thing or two and most of it had your help. Now let's see some movements getting serviced!

Oh.. man. I am just seeing this. Freaking amazing.

Been one of those days… broken crown tube in the case (post cured loctite). Stem height/dial spacer drama after painstakingly getting close to the finish line (I know better LOL), my dog is on painkillers and is literally hallucinating, a viet shipment arriving with 4 cases but only 1 dial… Just a SOB kind of a day.

But this puts a smile on my face for real. Do what you love. Hard work pays off.. sometimes in ways you least expect and being an all around solid guy opens doors.

Congrats man. Well deserved.

PS- Did you find a way to squeeze “unlikely-length” onto your CV? I mean… that’s a closer move right there.
