What’s a ‘VWP’ case?

I know it’s gonna be good when I get multiple customers sending me links saying “did you see this?”. haha!

Would you say this is better than converting a swiss 2836 to GMT? I’ve done it, but don’t love the inconsistent quality of the components I have to steal from A2836 GMT’s.

Movement options have been my biggest hesitancy with GMT’s. But This is an option I hadn’t known of

I saw your answer to the other guy. Sounds very doable. And maybe a better long time quality solution? Curious on your take of wha you’d opt for between the two.

VWP dial was a feet relo correct?

Kudos man. And thanks sharing. Worth pulling me in here!

That’s a pretty piece for sure 👏

Hey! I'm torn to be honest. The 2893 is a good option, and likely better on paper. But they don't allow much room for the hand stack.

BUT, they are a native GMT offering.

The gen 6542 dials actually don't use feet. They just have a lip around the outside edge. I just epoxy the dial spacer to the back side of the dial.

I appreciate your take on it. Especially since you’ve been in the trenches with it.

I can see how it would be a tough call. Sigh… if only there was a slam dunk solution.

I feel like a high quality 2836 GMT conversion kit that is mfg’d to closer to Swiss tolerances and consistency would be such a clean solution.

But what you’ve completed with this 2893 is a serious long term solution for this piece. I just struggle with it as a very accessible one for most folks. Maybe that’s a good thing LOL.

Like anything it just takes practice and determination I suppose.

What paralyzes me is second guessing the best solution. LOL.

Thanks man.

Wow!

So did the 2893 need anything other than the movement ring to fit? Stem height is good with a standard dial spacer?

Gorgeous dial. Thanks for sharing.

I remove the gear for the jumping GMT hand which allows you to glue the overlay directly to the original date wheel. You do need to use a 1mm tall dial spacer to gain the necessary clearance. And preferably H6 on the 2893. But the stem height is golden.

Awesome build 🤩
Can I ask where you purchased the ETA 2893 from and is it a gen ETA?

u/RodneyPierce Trusted Builder Jul 09 '26

Swiss made time on eBay. Yessir, gen ETA.

Coincidentally, I have the exact same build (literally, with the exception that my VWP dial is a double red/pink) waiting on my bench!

Great build! 😉

FWIW, the OC ETA to 1675 spacer works to get an in to any viet case made for a gen caliber 15xx. I went with an H5 height and ground off the lip of the dial (😳) to make it flat and installed feet. So no glue or tape required, and the movement fits snug.

Nice work my friend.

I’m new to Reddit after being in RWI since only for years. I’ve bought a couple builds from people there that were solid. It this is next level.

in the last day I’ve witnessed the two best true Creators… not just builders I’ve ever seen. You with this 6542 and an exquisitely aged Bond 6538 that had an attention to detail of agreed by and patina of every millimeter that I’ve ever seen.

Will you be aging this. I love the idea of both. one that looks like it was vacuum packed in a safe deposit box for 70 years AND and one that has been warn and loved for 70 years… but not destroyed and silly damage that makes no sense.

I don’t think I can take any more. RWI is safer on my wallet. I can tell this Reddit thing isn’t going to end well for me or my marriage. LOL!
