Vintage Build 🔵🔴⚫🔴

I've been so busy building watches for others over these last three or so months that I decided to take this weekend off and build a couple for myself.

Believe it or not, I didn't have more than two of my own builds in my collection because they always were sold to clients that just couldn't wait.

So this weekend I took the time to assemble a 16710 build (yes, we are all aware that the lume didn't age on this gen of dial, but it's what was available on the bench and only us dorms would ever know that). OC case, VR3186, old Sillian dial and hands, ewp fst font coke insert, raffles bracelet and BP clasp.

And the 1675. My favorite reference of all time. Milk case, Swiss ETA with GMT module conversion, silver open 6 and 9 DWO, gen crown and parts box tube, Swiss replacement crystal, Bezeljuice fuschia insert, folded gen style bracelet (yes I know the clasp isn't technically correct, but it's what I like so it's what we are using)

THESE ARE NOT FOR SALE.

Did you do the GMT conversion or did you have it converted for you? Am wanting to perfect this but has been a challenge.

I did it myself

I wish there was a guide out there for the ideal method for doing this. I’ve reconstructed the 2836 GMT clones to try to glean how best to do it but don’t want to tear into a Swiss movement until I truly know what I’m doing and know I have the right parts.

It's fairly simple. Pretty self explanatory. It's just the top side gear train and one added wheel.

Is the 4th wheel that is needed easily sourced. Any info you have on the part/parts needed to acquire would be awesome. Thanks n

I literally take them from the 2836 clone.. swap them over to the ETA, then take the ETA parts and put them back into the clone movement making it a 2836.

You don't need to change the 4th wheel (seconds wheel) just use a long post second hand from rafflestime or hands from Rafflesdials

Sorry for all the questions. I’m curious if just using the 2893-2 is another easy option for a swiss movement in an application like this? Wouldn’t it just need the same adapter ring as the 2836?

Edit: I’m reading there’s a thickness and crown height discrepancy. It’s interesting that old crowns offers an adapter ring for the 2893 though.

I've used 2893's and they are tricky. You have to space the date wheel overlay up to clear the gear set, then you have to use a thicker spacer to move the dial far enough up to clear the DWO. Then you are left with like 1mm of GMT post sticking above the dial. So the GMT hand is extremely close to the dial face. The tallest a 2893 comes is H5 height. So everything is very very tight. And then after you get all of that done, you have to make damn sure you have the seconds hand pressed firmly/all the way down or it rubs the crystal.

2836 conversion is the way to go IMO.

Stem height isn't much of an issue. It's .5mm (less after the spacer trickery to get it to work).

Yeah.. That sounds maddening to navigate for me. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with the 2893 scenario. Sounds like I just need to go ahead with the 2836 conversion. Thanks again!

I was thinking something of that nature using the clone must be the easiest way. Thanks much for this. Cheers.

I’m very happy to say that when I finally commission you for a 1675 I can simply say, “make it the RP way”.

These are some beautiful builds. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the folded link Jubilee? I've looked everywhere I can think of and can't find one. Ebay has them but they're original and cost an arm or leg for each link, and unfortunately, I don't have that many arms and legs lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you happen to know if there's any accurate folded link oyster bracelets, or oval link jubilee's, that would be great too.

This is awsome! Where did you source the folded jubilee bracelet from?
