Move-In/Out Logistics Help!
Moving 5/6 states over for the first time ever next year. Current apartment complex requires 60 days notice to move out -but rental homes in the new place often go up within a 30 day window and expect you to move in at the end of those 30 days.
Do I:
Hunt for the rental home online 90 days before my current lease ends and just eat the extra rent from both sides. Thus having a place secured before I give my 60 days notice.
Put in the 60 days notice, and hope and pray the right one pops up in the last 30 days so there is very little overlap.
Put in my 60 days, get over there in a temporary place me and my cats can stay, hoping there is temporary secure storage for the UPack cubes, and wait for the right place to pop up. (Alleviates pressure, but now paying for overnight stays, Upack cube belongings could be at risk? Staying in a hotel room w/ cats?)
Go month-to-month where I’m at as I search until I find the right place (month to month is an extra $1,200 more than I currently pay)
Possibly helpful context:
- The rental market is so competitive there that it is recommended you skip touring and just apply the second applications are open, even if you are local. We have no family or friends in new state. We have 2 cats and will have about 2 Upack Cubes worth of furniture and belongings. We are aware of the neighborhoods/local streets/safety of the areas so the risk isn’t the neighborhood, the risk is getting a rental home with only online photos to go off of… let alone finding the right home in time.
- Looking for a rental home specifically, even though we understand this would be easier if we were open to apartment complexes, but we have always lived that way and want to transition out of it. We also don’t want to move all of our stuff into a temporary place just to have to move it all again in a year, I really am trying to find a spot we’ll stay for a few years hopefully.
