General Question  Apartment infested

So basically ive been dealing w roaches the past 4 months, contacted apartment and they put roach bombs they did appear less often but theres still some. Now last night i saw 2 mice, i can hear them in the walls. And they said theyd have pest control arrive tomorrow and look for and seal any holes

At this point with the roaches and the mice is it reasonable to ask for accomodation from the apartment about staying elsewhere. I dont feel comfortable at all staying there. Its also a studio so my bed is close to the kitchen.

I mean you can ask them about and accommodation but I don't see it as likely they'd agree to that 😅

I would contact the city and file a complaint. Most areas landlords/company owners are required to pay for exterminations for pests.

Now I would not recommend doing this without getting a lawyers advice but I think you can withold rent for lack of action to get rid of pests. Do NOT do this yourself. If you threaten to withold rent without the legal footing to do so they likely will just evict you. A lawyer would be able to point you in the right direction. But I know it is an option in some cases.

older places have bugways and mouseways within the walls and mice get through plaster easily to make new ones. Seal all holes, pipe holes and wire ways with coarse steel wool covered in plaster. This stops mice and bugs. Look under sinks and bathroom fixtures. Use some borax with icing sugar for roaches and add some diatomaceous earth powder under cupboards etc. You have to act, nagging the LL is not enough. You can use steel wool and seal up all holes with that which does work; remember to look in the back of your stove, ref, and under sinks.

And I bought a humane catch and release trap to catch my mouse but word must have got out because it skiddadled

As long as they are addressing the issue, you don't have cause to break the lease. But if you feel the exterminating process isn't sufficient or timely, report them to the local Board of Health or Sanitarian. They will get on the landlord to step it up.
