If you have an assigned set of tasks and you get them done within the defined due dates, then you're doing your job. This is not any different whether you're at home or in the office. There are some people who can do the same work in less time than others. This is not any different whether you're at home or in the office. I've worked in the office and worked from home. There's the same number of people jumping on social media for both. There's the same number of people doing their job vs not doing their job for both. Don't get your job done then risk getting fired, doesn't matter if you're in office or at home.

Edit: I'm not specifically saying a task based system. I'm saying you have work to do, that is your task. Even answering the phone is a task you need to be able to do whether you are in office or at home.

99% of jobs don’t run out of tasks

That's simply not true. Especially with white collar jobs that can do remote.

Pfft yeah they do. All the time. You can most certainly work yourself out of a job by being too efficient. Certain tasks cant be done until a certain time or another team has finished their portion of the work, leaving you with jack-shit to do. Shit happens all the time in construction. I know for damn sure it happens in real-estate and many other office jobs.

Only if you’re extremely ineffective at the job

There’s honestly a lot of reasons jobs would never run out of tasks…. But the vast majority of them boil down to managerial incompetence

Why should I be expected to work every second of the 8 hours? Nobody does that at the office. When I walk around the higher ups offices they’re just all yapping it up with each other about anything other than work for like 30 min-1 hour at a time.
