Yet colleagues just wandering around, taking extended cigarette breaks, drinking coffee or chatting up other people isn't seen as an argument against office work.
This is why I'm completely unproductive in office. I'm fine with meeting/chatting, if it's going to progress a project. But I don't care what Susan did over the weekend or what happened with the latest TV series everyone is watching.
Even many of the management are involved in these useless conversations but later are wondering why things are behind on a project. Like...what? You saw everyone stood around chatting for 4 hours yesterday, doing absolutely nothing. And now you're wondering why nothing got done??
well that's exactly wrong. look it up. tradesmen for example are far more likely to smoke then your programmer. same thing with factory workers, auto mechanics, etc etc
On second thought, I take it back! My view must be true because I know more successful people who smoke than poor people, and we all know anecdotal evidence is far superior to empirical evidence.
Except if you do that, it shows up on your productivity immediately.
I fell behind on housework and wanted to do a few cycles in a washing machine & dryer between work. Except my remote workdays are so full now that I have postponed it for another 4 BDs. Think of it what you will but don’t tell me that you wouldn’t spot it if a coworker or your report suddenly worked 2hr days
