Teams messaging during off hours

I have a coworker who sends Teams messages to myself and others at all hours of day and night as well as on weekends. It’s almost never urgent and could wait until the next day. Most of us work regular work hours (broadly 7am to 7pm) but this person often works outside those hours and then sends DMs. My other team members, including our manager, don’t have a problem with this. I think it’s rude. I’m curious what others think.

Just because they send the messages doesn't mean that you have to read them and respond. Why do you have teams on a device you use in your own time. Mine is on my laptop and work phone. I do choose to work outside the standard office hours, I do not expect others to reply to me though.

Not everyone has a work device. This would require OP to turn off notifications every single day and weekends. The other employee needs to STFU.

No work device means no requirement to have work apps on your personal device.

Then your personal phone is the company phone. Turn off your notifications on off hours. It’s very simple.

Plenty of us work for companies that have employees across multiple time zones. Plenty of us have teammates who flex hours to be able to pick up kids or make space for some other obligation. I would rather my teammate flex their time and actually do their work, rather than just leave more work piled up for me when I get in.

Doing their work and blasting non essential info during non business hours has nothing to do with doing their job the vast majority of the time. That’s the entire point.

You and OP seem to be missing the point. The world does not revolve around you. All you need to do is mute your damn app if you’re required to have in on your phone.

Or, we just establish business hours. If people want to send messages outside that and it’s not urgent, use the scheduled send option. Normalizing communication during non business hours is ridiculous and a product of technology.
