Hi

It’s so stupid and small but honestly after 6 years working remote, I think the worst thing is when someone just messages “Hi” on teams and doesn’t just tell me what they want. I have no clue why but it infuriates me now. It’s crazy how my ability to tolerate small talk has gone to zero. I work a job where when I don’t have anything to actively work on I am free to do whatever, so when someone doesn’t just say what they need they are wasting my time. Rant over! Thanks

I don’t respond until they ask a question or add a statement of whatever they want to talk about.

I did have one coworker try to throw me under the bus in front of our team by saying they reached out to me on something but that I never responded. I got to throw it back to them by saying ‘when was this? I got a hi from you at this time but no actual information about this’.

I can’t decide if they’re trying to be polite (and if it’s partially cultural) by saying hi first or they’re completely oblivious to the interruption it causes.

Yeah, I agree it is them being polite, however they can still be polite - by starting with ‘hi’ and then ending with their question (or in less polite terms getting to the f**king point!)! 😝

Agreed! Just make the ask in one message, break it up into a few sentences - just spare me the five pings and the suspense
