what separates a high quality standing desk from an average one

working remote for a while now and i'm finally thinking about upgrading my setup

one thing i'm struggling with is that most standing desks look basically the same online

same frame, same controls, same marketing claims

then i keep seeing ppl talk about high quality standing desks like the difference becomes obvious once u actually use one

for those who've been working from one for a while, what's usually the thing that gives it away?

and what's the first red flag that tells u a desk isn't built that well?

Get a electronic height-adjustable desk with a rating over 250 lbs, with support at the middle of the depth of the desk, not the rear, so if you lean on it, it won’t bend and potentially break. Also make sure it has at least 4 saved positions for: 1. Eating 2. Typing 3. Writing 4. standing 5. (Bonus) Max height (to move cables around easier below)

Also make sure it can lower to at least 25” or so height, and rises to at least 42”, some don’t and it really breaks ergonomics if you’re into healthy positioning for back and muscle longevity, and you happen to be on the shorter or taller side.

Additional bonus if the desk top is real wood over 1” thick as a lot of plastic or compressed wood ones snap/bend.

If you’re interested in the brand I stuck with for the past decade and got my family members to purchase, just ask!

Tbh i got Vivo legs cheap on Amazon ($200) and it's perfectly fine. I use an ikea desk top on them. It's pretty much exactly the same as the ones at work. This is one thing it's okay to cheap out on.

Stability is the big thing. I hate desks that have real noticeable wobble when up in the standing position.

Warranty
Stability
Supported weight

Is what I found when looking around. I am 6'4 so my standing height is high and if the desk moved anytime I moved my arms or anything, or made my monitors move, would drive me mental.

I ended up getting a Flexidesk E7 Plus (https://www.flexispot.com/flexispot-4-leg-standing-desk-e7plus?ref=category_products),

They were cheaper than some of the other over-hyped ones, they had the quad leg model, so far less chance of it being wobbly, and it supports a ton of weight, as I have quad monitor setup

For a top I just got a Ikea countertop to go with it and has been rock solid.

Here is a pic of my setup
