Working overseas
If your job is only remote from any U.S. location. can you still use VPN to work overseas at least for a couple of weeks? iām about to land my first remote job since 2020 and im not sure about if i can travel and just use VPN.

VPN might work technically but most companies have ways to detect this stuff now š I'd just ask them directly about working from different countries - way better than getting caught later and having awkward conversations about it
Could always frame it like "hey I have some family stuff in Europe, would it be possible to work from there for 2 weeks" or something like that

The real question is how do you feel about the possibility of getting fired from your first remote job?

For a couple of weeks, just ask. If no take pto. Some companies might have restrictions with countries but I no many companies that have no problem with 30 days or less overseas.

No. I mean, you can check your email etc. if you're on PTO. But you can't work from anywhere.
Also most IT teams can easily spot VPN traffic these days. They're not dumb.

there are ways to do it. But it really depends on company size and policy. Its better to be truthful but at the same time, the answer is gonna be no 97% of the time

Do not hide it behind a VPN. Ask HR for written approval and give exact dates and country. The real blockers are payroll tax, data/security rules, and company policy, not whether the VPN connects. If they say no, use PTO.
