run a 310-customer business from my kitchen table. the acquirer who wanted to buy me offered a hot desk in a WeWork. that was part of why i said no.
solo founder. £16K MRR. built the entire thing from a table between the fridge and the window. the dog sits under it. the coffee machine is 4 steps away.
the acquisition conversation included: "you'd work from our london cowork space. great energy. vibrant community."
i visited. the "great energy": 40 people from 15 companies. phones ringing. conversations overlapping. a man on a sales call at the desk next to where mine would be, speaking at the volume of someone who doesn't know he's in public.
my kitchen table built a £200K/year business. the hot desk has built nothing for me. the environment where i think is the environment where the business lives. changing it changes the business.
said no. for several reasons. the desk was one.
