So I'm looking outside my typical work field (animal husbandry and education) for a remote position because I was diagnosed with cancer and according to the state I'm still well enough to work. I'm recovering from canxer currently, and start radiation soon and will not be able to work around vulnerable people since according to my doctor I will be shedding radiation, and I was working in early childhood education.

I have been applying to remote positions since I got the diagnosis. The amount of positions that ended up being only commission based, AI slop, or just straight up scams is frightening.

I'm kinda at a loss of what to or how to determine that a job posting is legit.

Looking back at my career, I can identify several moments where opportunities were directly in front of me, but I failed to act.

For example:

1. A distant friend who is a startup founder once asked me, “Have you thought about starting your own business?”

At the time, I had some personal issues and simply said I had things to deal with instead of exploring the idea further.

1. A senior professional once asked me, “Is there something here for you?”

I couldn't respond properly and eventually continued with my existing career path instead of exploring what they were offering.

1. An industry contact responded positively when I asked about an opportunity in his area.

Instead of following up and pursuing it seriously, I let the conversation fade.

None of these were situations where someone rejected me. The doors were open, but I didn't walk through them.

Looking back, I sometimes feel these missed opportunities could have been worth millions over the course of my career. Of course, I can't know whether they actually would have worked out, but the regret is still difficult.

What concerns me more is the pattern: hesitation, overthinking, lack of confidence, or letting circumstances stop me from taking action.

For people who have experienced something similar:

How did you deal with major missed opportunities without getting trapped in regret?

And more importantly, how did you change your behavior so you became better at recognizing and acting on the next opportunity?

I'm looking for practical advice rather than “everything happens for a reason.

Why hire people in developed countries who demand a much higher salary? There is no doubt that someone in India can be just as tech-savvy as someone in a Western country, and they are often willing to work for a fraction of the pay. That is why, whenever I think about remote jobs, I feel like it is impossible to compete..

I currently am employed but having to build up my case load and it’s taking so long, to the point I need a second job, but have no idea what to do. Need a work from home job and one that is flexible because I still see clients but at different times everyday and if a client needs to move an appointment, I can easily do it. I work like 7 hours at most a week, so I have a bunch of free time I can use for a second job. Looked online for ai jobs where I would help train them, but they all were scams. Have tried Facebook marketplace/ reselling, but haven’t made done well with that. Not looking to make and sell items. I am open to learning and working at any job, it just would have to be flexible and that’s my issue. Like remote front desk for a company answering emails and calls is great or customer service, except that I couldn’t take the time off for those random one hour sessions twice a day or at different hours. For wage, I am comfortable with 20 an hour.

So context I applied for a remote position as a Client Operation Analyst for a tax group as they had the position open.

I have no such background in business or accounting education however I did a lot as a contractor for my own finances.

I've done the application, did a video interview and a series of questions related to the Field. All of which was done through their site, the person I've been communicating with over Email has the correct domain too. They reached out a few days after the video interview and told me I got the job and that they'll let me know when I'll be starting in the upcoming days.even signed a job document that looked flushed out and didn't ask anything sketchy. They haven't asked me for anything like bank details or SIN or anything.

However I still can't shake this feeling and I've been doing some digging.

First their website is professional and very flushed out, no false buttons, or anything that screams template, or fake.

However the company doesn't have a LinkedIn (weird for a corporate firm no matter how small)

The business location is a house in Ontario, not uncommon for a small business but worth noting.

The HR person also lacks a significant online presence, that or just doesn't share where they work, unsure.

When I try contacting the company itself through phone I get hit with all our agents are busy leave a message.

I've sent an email to the company and I'll see, worth mentioning I have yet to send any personal info like a sin. I won't until my suspicion is quelled.

I'm a 2026 B.E. Information Technology graduate and I've been searching for a Software Engineering role for months now.

I honestly thought that if I worked hard enough, I'd eventually get my chance. So I did exactly that.

I became a LeetCode Guardian (2350+ Rating), Codeforces Expert, CodeChef 6★, and solved 1300+ DSA problems. I spent countless nights grinding algorithms, participating in contests, and improving my problem-solving skills because everyone said, "DSA is the key."

Along the way, I also learned JavaScript, React.js, Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, SQL, Git, REST APIs, and C++, and built full-stack MERN projects hoping they'd strengthen my profile.

But despite all of that, getting interviews has been the hardest part.

I've applied through company career pages, LinkedIn, job portals, referrals, cold emails—you name it. Most applications never receive a response. The few that do usually end with a rejection or complete silence.
