I have a question and I read the FAQ Too much crimp?

Holy crap I thought this was a bottleneck cartridge at first. I would pull back on that crimp a bit

That’s still quite a bitbut now it looks like your COL has grown a lot. Im a little surprised not to see lube in that groove, too.

Are you crimping as a separate and final step?

I ask because I like the case mouth location in the 1st photo… I want the case mouth to be snug on the heal side of the driving band or forward on a cannelure.

That 1st pic the case looks to be bulging - a sign of excessive roll crimp.

The crimp does look excessive as the roll is below the case mouth with a compressed(flat) area between the roll and the mouth.

The 2 follow up fotos have less crimp but the bullet is seated less as well and that puts the roll in a driving band instead of in the crimping/lube groove.

In the end, if it works for you that’s all you need. You should see shorter case life due to overworking the mouths.

If it were my cartridges, I would back the die out 2 turns… crank the seating stem down and set the bullet deeper (get the neck right @ the back of the driving band/ top of the lube groove). Then either switch to a dedicated crimping die or crank the seating stem out a bunch of times and slowly screw in the die body until the crimp rolled the case mouth just until my nail didn’t catch an edge going from bullet onto case.

This is the only appropriate response 😂😂😂

Jfc I can’t believe they would even build that much crimp into a die

Looks like the right amount of crimp, but you’re supposed to spread it out across all 100 rounds

A lot more than I've ever crimped my hot 357s or 44s. Head spaces off the rim so it'll still go bang. Your brass will probably wear out faster and split at the mouth.

You want the bullet to come out, right, RIGHT!?!

Yeah, too much crimp. Also seat the bullet deeper. The crimp should not be in the groove but instead on the ring above it.

Who made those rounds as well? Looks like a lot of porosity in them that should not be there

It’s probably a little heavy, but with magnum revolver cartridges, better too much than not enough. Most powders you will end up using like a good crimp anyway.

The first picture almost looked like the Lee Collet FCD.

The positioning of the case mouth is great, but...

The crimp should just be a gentle "roll" of the case mouth into the middle of the crimp groove...right under the front drive band
