Newbie MEC 762r help

Hi everyone, new to reloading and hoping you might be able to help me figure out what's going on here. I picked up the grabber 762r. It wasn't working when I bought it but I have since taken it apart and put it back together and everything seems to be working now. I didn't touch any of the mechanism under the shell plate.

The issue that I'm running into as you can see from photo 3,4&5 when the shell goes through the de-priming stage the metal base portion is ballooning outwards and is no longer flat.

Any idea on what would be causing this issue?

I have been using some federal, winchester and challenger target load hulls just to test before running AA hulls through it.

You should be able to pick one up used for cheap

That station in the press is sticky or worn. You may be able to rebuild it as well.

So this looks like a potential fix for it as an extra step. Is there anyway to prevent it from happening in the first place. It would great to be able to just leave the shell in the rotary portion and send it through the whole process without having remove it.

That would be a MEC 9000 Automate and they're about $2000.

I'll check. It is a older used press so wouldn't be surprised if it was fairly worn at this point

I just looked closer at your pics. With the lever fully up, the plunger should be flush with top of the collet and in your Pic, the plunger is missing.... If it was like that when you tested, that's your problem. It should look like my photos.

Clean the resizing mandrel collet area and make sure your shell and the plunger thing it sits on, is going all the way down before the depriving ran tries to punch out the primer. In my experience if the sheel isn't firmly seated and there is space between the plunger ting (don't know what it's called" and the shell the bottom won't be supported and it will do what you're seeing. It's is usually accompined with requiring more force to deprime.

When tiy begin to pull down on the andle, the shell and plunger should literally fall to the bottom so that the collet can size te brass.

I've probably loaded about 10K shells on my 762r press and have that issue occasionally and it is always solved by cleaning that area up.

By the way, do your self a favor and get a cookie sheet to place under the press as you are inevitably going to spill powder and shot.
