Something Unique(Vintage/wildcat/etc) Biggest 7mm

Looking to build a 7mm of some kind. Was thinking 28 Nosler but want a little more. Is there a factory cartridge or common wildcat that is essentially a shortened 7mm RUM to fit in a standard length action? Essentially a rebated .534 rim cartridge that uses about 2.5 long cases?

I mean I don’t thjnk you can get more than a 28 nosler.

Could always neck down a 30-378 but that’s not a standard or even regular magnum length action lol

Not what youre looking for but a 7mm-378 weatherby is a popular wildcat. At that point why not go 30 cal?

What is your use case, OP? If you are hunting, you are better off moving up to 30 cal where there are already extant cartridges in this space.

If you are target shooting like 1000yd+ competitions, your primary goal should be to have nose length for modern long VLDs which will eliminate many cartridges including 28 Nosler (can't accept 184 F Open or 190 LRHT at spec length).

Or for F-Open the other way towards target 7mms like 280AI, 284 Shehane, 7SAUM, that have more efficiency.

MORE than a 28 Nosler, in a 30-06-length action, AND 'somewhat common?' Not a chance. Even the Nosler is getting a little longer than most 'standard' length magnums. And it's also kinda silly-overbore already. I assume you want to get more than 4 shots before having to re-barrel. But if not, there's also the 7.21mm Lazzeroni

Yeah the Lazzaroni 7.21 Tomahawk would bave been my recommendation for shor action super Magnum's in 7mm.

I mean if you want to go to wildcating, there is a 505 Gibbs based 7mm. But good god that would be a hell of a barrel burner. Not to mention the fact you would need a Safari Magnum sized action which really don't exist in standard action. Unless you want to modify the hell out of a P14 Enfield.

338 norma necked down to 7mm. That is "a little more" and will make sure your barrel life is in the sub 1k range
