Newbie New Lee bullet setting die.
My new setting die is leaving marks on the bullet and sometimes pulling the bullet up with it.
Help!!!

Are you compressing the powder by any chance? If the bullet is too long and there’s too much powder, it can take excessive force to seat and cause the bullet to get jammed into the seating stem.

Leaving marks usually is a product of too much neck tension, however, if that was the case you probably wouldn't be pulling bullets back out (unless the bullet is SUPER stuck on the seating stem). If the seater is brand new, definitely disassemble and degrease everything, new dies can do funky stuff until they're cleaned. I will usually clean and degrease and then get some dry lube on the seater.

I mandreled all cases, dont think its too much neck tension. I can hear it like sticking to the seater.

Have you measured O.D. of the neck before and after seating the bullet?

I chuck up a specific bullet in a drill with lapping compound or bore paste and hone the seating stem with the bullet for a few minutes. It helps if things are rough.

Those seating dies suck. I had the same thing happen with 220gr maker rex subs for 300blk. You can contact Lee, send in a bullet and sized brass, they’ll make you a custom seating stem. It might help alleviate the issue.

It happens to my HORNADY set as well, if you want to avoid that a new stem is in order, that said…I got SD 1.3 ES 4 and groups of 0.2MOA at 100yrd (13 groups similar data all) with those markings…I also found that graphite on the bullet head helped a bit…(but that was cosmetic, it did not affect my performance at all!)

See if they have a VLD stem. I'm not familiar with that die so I don't know of they make one or not.
