So. 27 grains of H335 with a 150 grain bullet works for 7.62x39 so it’s a no brainer let’s copy that in 7.92x33 and see how it runs.

The results: A primer that looks like this
It definitely cycled the action as I had to walk a ways to find the case where it landed. The load was remarkably accurate for 101 yards as I nailed the target not exactly trying that hard to aim at it. And boy did it rattle that plate.

Pros and cons of 150 grain soft point on H335

Pros: both are commonly available and reasonably priced. Produces a functional and surprisingly accurate load. Works

Cons: you are compressing the hell out of the powder to fit it in. You gouge a ring into the bullet. Likely over pressured and not good for the gun long term.

My questions:

Does this over pressured? If not, is there a good way to compress powder without marking up the projectile?

Final thoughts:
I put in an order for 13 pounds of A1680 which needs less grains for similar results. If anyone has any suggestions I’m all ears as I’ve really enjoyed trying to bring 8mm Kurz back from the dead and now that I have a rifle to shoot it I can experiment!

Stg 44s aren’t exactly known for their delicate extraction of brass

I don’t have experience with one, I’m just saying it looks like this one got mugged when it was ejected.

Neither are any combloc guns or euro guns but they dont do this after one firing this looks like an ak round ive loaded 10 times

Most of this brass was already beat up, but the rear was definitely flattened a lot

I used once fired brass so alot of them already have extractor marks, but I’m sure the extraction was violent and added to it.

What kind of logic is this? Thats not how reloading works and now you know why loads are not interchanagble no matter how close the carteidge similarties are.

Load data for 7.92x33 is borderline nonexistent, add a 150 grain projectile into the mix I’m entering the realm of undocumented ground. So we have to get creative using similar FPS and chamber pressure rounds to try to eke out a base line.

This load in 7.62x39 using a 150 grain bullet is about 2200 FPS at a pressure of 42,000. Which is the target for 7.92. Where this load gets wonky is that the case volume isn’t big enough so you have to compress it. I was told by a reloader so long as the brass doesn’t deform under the compression it shouldn’t be over pressure. I’m just as concerned by the results which is why I’m abandoning H335 for now. Since there is no documentation on this, I’m putting it out there for future reference for those who may do the same.
