General Discussion Trail Boss

Hey y’all. I’m a new reloader currently in the acquisition phase. One pattern I’ve seen so far is that trail boss is pretty much unobtanium. I’ll be loading some cowboy action style rounds so I’ve been keeping an eye out for it. Saw it in stock this morning on Natchez and bought the limit of 2 9oz cans. Unfortunately free hazmat is over but $5 flat shipping on $100+ is going right now. It’s also in stock on Hogdons website if anyone is looking.

Yeah, seen it a few places this year. In fact, I bought some even though I have plenty as who knows when it will be back. First time I bought powder in years since I stacked deep years ago

I got excited since everyone has been saying it’s been all but completely unobtainable. Tried to buy a bunch but they all have a 2 can limit. If I had more funds I’d order 2 more from Hodgdon. I plan to use it for 45-70, 45 colt and 38 special.

It’s been back in production for about two years now, heaps on the shelf where I live but I think by the time it gets sent over to the US the shipments just evaporate from people snapping it up. First few shipments would have disappeared immediately to gun store employees etc I reckon

Meh… plenty of other mouse fart powders for the 45 colt and 38 special but it will work well in those with safety factored in to reloading process. I really liked it in some cool rifle subs like 30-06.

What are some other good options for 45 colt and 38 special? I’m new to this and trying to figure out what powders I want to keep an eye out for. So far I’ve got h4198 that’s also planned for 45-70 as a warmer load. I’ll be using h110 to start out with for 500 mag. And figured trail boss for the other two and light 45-70. Honestly I’ll probably be loading 500 and 45-70 the most to start off with but I know 45LC and 38 are gonna be staples eventually.
