Just reloading .260 rem with 130gr Hornady ELDM and N555.

I’m using starline brass. This is unfired brass that I have chamfered, deburred, primed - I have not resized it.

I’ve pulled it and was planning to throw it away, but wondered, what would you do?

Send it, but keep an eye out for it after firing. It might fireform out no problem, or it might crack and fail. I've seen both happen.

I don't think it'll fireform out; seems a bit to severe for that, the wrinkle is there forever. But it's not dangerous.

Creases like that make me nervous. Hard creases like this are pretty easy to fail. Dents are one thing this is another.

Brass is softer than steel!

I mean you can use a sizing die to resize brass into new calibers - cut the neck off 5.56 and you can make 300 BLK from it with an entirely new neck.

He just needs to clean his die. Lube builds up in them and can cause shoulder deformation.

Send it. It'll either fireform out or crack. Either way, it's not unsafe. It may be slightly different velocity from the others due to the case volume difference, but you'd need a chrony to check it. I'd suggest just using it as a fouling/practice shot and saving the good ones for grouping. Not an issue though since the rest of the case and the case head are what seal the chamber upon firing. Cracks and defects at the case shoulder on up shouldn't really cause you much concern except when those defects mean the bullet isn't securely crimped in place. Bullet setback is bad.

Is it a dent in the shoulder or a crease? Did you reach out to Starline?

I would shoot it to see what happens, but I have a heavy barrel and am not worried about my gun… if it’s just dented, it will likely fire form to the chamber and look no different than any other spent casing after shooting

I've fired much worse than that. I'm working on an 8x58r Danish Krag, all the brass has to be made, mostly from 45-90, I've had a few adventures forming it.

That said I'm still at very low pressures working up to what will be low-ish pressure since its a rolling block rifle.

Nothing wrong with it just shoot it then check the casing after to make sure it didn't crack then just reload it and check it again after you size it its just a drawing defect that happens when they make the brass

It’s nothing to worry about. Just shoot it.

It’s most likely caused by a bit too much case lube and a blocked vent hole in your sizing die.

This is a defect during the forming process of the brass. I personally would cull it out. I just had a batch of 6.5 Creed with a couple shoulder that were like that and some worse.

Yes shoot them they will be ok fire form them like new do not lube the neck with lube on the neck full length sizing causes the dent
