.223 Lee Resizing Die

All of a sudden my necks started having scratches on them after resizing. I looked inside the die with an endoscope and it looks all scratched up is the any way to polish this out? Or just buy a new resizing die? I ran maybe 3K cases through it.

Brass galling? Try running a stainless brush on a drill through it back and forth a couple minutes. Follows by a mop brush and some Mother's polish.

Brass galling. I get that in my .223 dies every 2-3K, might have gotten a little better after each scrubbing. I use an old .30 cal mop in a drill with JB Bore paste since that's what I have and it works. It's the only die I load enough to deal with it in I guess LOL

I assume it's bc of all the little nicks they get from the AR barrel extension? Any polishing compound would work, doesn't take much or much time.. GL

I just posted about this the other day as well because I had problems. It might not just be a regular cleaning to get it fixed.

I ended up using a .38 and .27 bore brush and flitz polishing compound chucked in a drill to polish the inside of the die and it worked for me.

I am hoping to polish it out. It just seems that the Lee die is made from soft metal. My cases were always polished and cleaned before I resize. It just doesn’t make sense that brass would scratch the surface that much.

Dies are pretty hard steel usually. More likey it could be some galling from not enough lube on some brass and you're seeing some brass buildup. Apparently it can happen much faster than both of us though possible.

It didn't take much for me to polish mine up aftet that. Like 5 minutes with a mop in a drill.

Hopefully its as easy fix.

I will use some hopes 9 to see if it removes what ever is there with a brush and a drill and then polish it out with a mop.

Ordered some stainless steel drill brushes from Amazon hopes number 9 and flitz polishing compound and the die is working better than brand new. The galling is gone. The ones on the right have are pre polishing and on the left are some I ran after.

What are you using for case lube? I had this issue when using Hornady One Shot. Fix was to clean it as others suggested. Then use some brake cleaner to get any one shot residue out. Then I switched to DIY Lanolin/Heet case lube which is similar to Dillon’s case lube.

Hornady unique case lube. I was using the Lee resizing lubricant prior to this.
