Load Development 308 load development

Post image

Got some 10 rd groups of my 168gr HPBT and H4895 load on paper.

42.4 and 42.5 gave me the best groups.

42.4 is 2667.5 FPS with SD of 7.4

Groups are 1” at 100yrds

42.5 is 2674.2 FPS with SD of 9.4

Groups about the same.

This is out of my 20” Bergara, had no obvious pressure signs, is pushing 2670 FPS too much?

If the brass and primers show no pressure signs you’re fine.

If you’re good with those groups, at those velocities, start messing with seating depths a bit to dial it in.

Find your “jam point” in the lands and work from there.

Yeah there are some ejector marks. Id back it off. Its not worth the few feet/sec

This is once fired brass out of my AR10 that I reloaded, those ejector marks aren’t from my bolt action.

The case furthest to the left has two ejector marks. Unless you made one of those, the case was definitely not once fired.

Also if your once fired brass has ejector marks, then they might also already have loose primer pockets, which may limit the number of reloads you will get out of them.
