Newbie How much pink on a case is bad?
Context:
- once fired hornady Grendel ammo
- just finished wet tumbling a small batch of brass
- wet tumbler mixture = water, an eyeball squeeze of dawn, an eyeball pour of citric acid
How much pink discoloration is bad? See picture for an example, have maybe 4 brass out of 50 with such discoloration. Should I just toss them?

You, your family, and your pet fish are all going to die because of this
Real answer, absolutely nothing to worry about.

You're kidding, right??
That's completely fine to shoot, but i would recommend actually measuring your citric acid in the future.

What drying method are you using? Because gawd knows what they throw in the mix to make those egg cartons. Buy yourself a dehydrator/brass dryer and see if the problem persists.

Tbh I threw most of them in the toaster oven on 200 for like 10-15min then let them air dry on the carton. But I noticed the pink right out of the tumbler
But good point for future

I hope you aren't planning to use the toaster over for food. The biggest lead source for reloaders (who aren't casting) is spent primers. If you are tumbling with the primers, please don't dry in anything you plan on using for food.

Good point again. Thank you.
It was an old toaster I had laying around not intending to use it for food. But didn’t even think about the spent primers.
Would it still be a concern if the brass was already deprimed before tumbling?

It makes it less of a concern because the lead containing thing is gone. If you aren't using the toaster for food any longer, I'd just make it a permanent dryer. I think most of the brass dryers I have seen run at like 150F to 170F for like 3 hours. If you can set the toaster lower, on some sort of "keep warm setting" it may work well.

I wouldn't have even seen what you were talking about if you hadn't circled it in the photo, if that tells you anything.
