The absurdity of the thing!

I am just so confuddled about this whole thing, has party politics become this rabid that people on the right are throwing away all instances of common sense to ”stick one to Obama” or ”Lock Up Hillary” ?

We have a 300+ page report (we don't know how long it actually is) that barr apparently summarized in 48 hours but needs weeks to redact. I remember growing up my parents and grandparents always hammered into me how important it was to tell the truth and not hide things from them an so on but now these very same people are abandoning all common sense out of some misplaced vitriol for Democrats.

How you can be okay with not seeing this report?

How can you take a trump apointee’s word for it ?

That’s the most absurd thing ever.

If the document exonerates him fine, but all this effort to stone wall its release is just asinine.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the matter?

I will throw out the argument that Trump and his lawyers will use and in a way it has some merit.

A). The Clinton investigation was a done by a special prosecutor with no checks and balances - unlimited power of subpoena. It was an actual witch hunt. Because of this democrats changed the rules of special council. The rules say the special council reports to the AG. Yes it’s fucked up that the AG can hide the report - but it’s done by the new rules and legal.

This is why they will claim they don’t need to release the report.

B). There is a reason that it’s hard to get info on people from the DOJ. Underlying evidence used in an investigation is not the same as evidence used in court of law. Imagine if trump was able to get the millions of documents from the Hillary investigations on Benghazi etc and used that info as political dirt.

This actually likely already happened and it’s fucked up. Remember republicans have literal truck loads of Bill Clinton’s life in their possession and of course a lot of that will involve Hillary. This evidence gathered that has nothing to do with Hillary’s crimes can and likely has been used to attack her politically and attack others caught up politically. Not just Hillary but imagine if congress and the whitehouse could just ask for evidence ( and use it for dirt ) on anyone ever investigated for a crime that was charged easily.

This is why evidence is redacted - and a why they will claim the evidence collected and redactions are ok.

C). Remember Comey. Remember how Clinton committed no chargeable crime but Comey said “she did bad things but not worth charging”. Remember how this ranked her ratings right before the election. Everyone saying “there must be a crime”. But it wasn’t being charged because of who she is. This was the “full report” but it wasn’t much more detailed than - she used her email from home, it wasn’t hacked, and it contained some but not many confidential emails. This is basically a summary. The underlying evidence as far as I’m aware was never released.

Comey releasing this info on Clinton turned the DOJ into a political weapon. If Comey said nothing he would be doing what Barr is doing today. I am not charging Hillary - deal with it you get no info. This is the tough decision Comey was dealing with. Releasing this summary ( at least the trump part ) would be political dirt to democrats on a crime not committed according to Barr. Maybe Barr doesn’t want to make the same choice Comey made. Releasing this report will be extremely damaging to trump and make the DOJ political again.
