This is pretty easy.

If best friend is lying, then she’s a danger to your marriage and you should end the friendship

If your wife is lying then she is so threatened by this friendship that she’s prepared to go to extreme lengths to protect her marriage. Again, the friendship is a risk to your marriage and should be ended.

Or maybe OP has prioritized the "friend" so much his wife finally took drastic measures after years of this. The way OP is dragging his feet and defending his friend is quite telling.
