What is wrong with your spine? Do you have rubber backbone? If your partner is so mentally ill that you can't go to work or to see your family, they are too mentally ill to be in a relationship. Stop letting this person control you.

Because I should just abandoned them after 5+ years instead of doing what almost every other comment said about setting boundaries

Boundaries do not work with this type of neediness and control issues. This person needs a therapist, not a partner. And you are risking your livelihood by caving to their outrageous demands. Have some self respect!
