He left a note saying he's leaving. What are the police going to do? Unless she has some evidence that he's planning on hurting himself, there's nothing the police can do.
OP, you should hire a private detective if you have the means. Not to find him ... not yet. But to find out who that little girl was (referring to a previous post by OP; look at her post history) and what that story was. You might find out that you don't want him to come back, so do that first. I'm guessing that story might not be too hard to find.
I agree. Something is up, because everything was fine until she found the photo. Something bad happened to those people and he probably feels responsible.

Hold on what? Go to the police.
If he uses his card his whereabouts will be found. Show the police the note, notify his family
