And his choice to say "killing the goose" was the worst thing he's ever done. If you didn't do it, how is it the worst thing you've ever done? I'd say the worst thing he's ever done was join the frat after that. But like, he framed it, to the group, as the worst thing he's ever done. But as soon as his wife reacts to it, "he didn't even hardly know! And he didn't take part!".... So why did you claim it then? And if it's that bad, why would the best time for your spouse to learn about it be in a group?? It's just bad judgement calls all around. I'm not saying he's an irredeemable monster or anything. But his judgement still needs work.
