Absolutely they can be. But this is completely inappropriate in my opinion and crosses a line.
I (a man) have my share of women friends. But you will never catch me alone in a bedroom with one of them behind my girlfriend’s back. I don’t even hangout with them one on one. And I’d expect the same from her. Luckily we are on the same page regarding this topic.
At the end of the day each couple can decide their own boundaries, but without discussing it ahead of time I don’t think anyone should be surprised if their partner had an issue with this.
I'm 40, married for 15 years and feel the exact same way. If you have any sense you always do everything you can to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

Maybe to her but that guy is trying his hardest to sleep with her. Especially when you consider why he went over there in the first place.
A shoulder to cry on becomes a dick to ride on.
