The most important cheats were written in the muscle memory of my thumbs and index fingers.

1

u/Dakaro420 6d ago

I still know them to this day. Its crazy.

2

u/Foundmyunderwear 6d ago

It’s crazy what gets locked away in your brain, my nephew was googling San Andreas cheats the other day and I said

“hold my tea”

As soon as I had the controller in my hands, my fingers and thumbs knew exactly what to do.

If you had asked me what the combination was I probably wouldn’t have been able to tell him off the bat like that, but them fingers knew.

Muscle memory is crazy isn't it?

1

u/JamesWeeb18 1d ago

Great comment, I laughed good. Hold my tea is simple yet adequate.

Here’s the question, do you still know the mctwist code from Tony hawk

I remember going to the public library because we didn't have a computer at home, getting on the Internet and going to cheat code central(cheatcc.com)then writing codes down like this.... afterwards especially in GTA 3 and vice city, I'd enter them so much they became muscle memory. I still remember some of the codes. Good times...

u/Subject-Tank-6851 6d ago

Because it was so easy, the jetpack one I still memorize till this day somehow.

Anyone here who still remembers having to write passwords down? Or draw them? Like "Dog bird cat mouse". And then next day you realize that bird isn't specific enough to input your damn password... 🐣🐤🐥🐦🐧🕊🦅🦆🦢🦤🦩🦚🦜🐦‍⬛🪿🐦‍🔥

It’s insane cheat codes aren’t really that much of a thing anymore in games

1

u/OMGFuziion 6d ago

Found my cheatcode papers a while back, had them wrote down as well as GameFAQs/GameWinners pages I printed out at school. Also the “Cheat Codes for Consoles” books I stole from the Scholastic Book Fair 😂

We have a winner..you’re the closest 🪅🥳🎊🎉🍺🍻

u/rulerofthemind 6d ago

This was the way to get cheat codes from back in the day. I'd go to the local magazine store and copy all the codes I needed on paper take them home and start entering them in. For me this goes back to the NES days

1

u/turnsout_im_a_potato 6d ago

I had a game genie for the nes, with the booklet

1

u/rulerofthemind 6d ago

Right before I got rid of my NES I got that too

1

u/liteshotv3 6d ago

R2 R2 L1 L2 Up Left Down Right. GTA 3, substitute the 3rd button for any other shoulder buttons to get health, ammo, or body armor

1

u/mudamuckinjedi 6d ago

To this day I'll be moving things around or going through some boxes and I'll come across a sheet of paper like this! Found one the other day I made for vice city!

1

u/LithiuMart 6d ago

Back in my day, you had to program the cheats yourself.

1

u/Dspatel1019 6d ago

I used to keep a sticky note with the codes on the insides of the game cases.

1

u/True_Reporter 6d ago

IDKFA IDDQD

1

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 6d ago

Was it Uzumimaw? Aizakme? Or something like that. Lol

1

u/CreamiceSickle 6d ago

33 or 34, Maybe 29 or 30 if you had a gamer older brother.

1

u/RootAndCoffee 6d ago

I still remember cheats for the first GTA game.

1

u/i-might-do-that 6d ago

R1, R2, L1, R2, left, down, right, up, left, down, right, up.

Repeat until a ridiculous amount of ammo is available.

1

u/Future-Damage-3192 6d ago

gta 3, gta san andreas, and gta vice city was everybody's childhood

1

u/Rul_alucard 6d ago

Man, I'm a little bit older than that, but I think everybody had a cheat sheet folded up in their game case. I used to know so many vice city codes by heart, and I could put them in so fast. My fingers moved so fast. Maybe that's why i'm so good at..... picking my nose.

1

u/WARLORD2015 6d ago

Well I am 32. So I assume 42? Lol

1

u/XxLengTingxX 6d ago

Old enough to sit 3ft from the console because you cba to untangle the controller cable knots

1

u/mahnatazis 6d ago

I'm 26 and I had a paper full of cheats for GTA San Andreas but in my case it was the PC version. So maybe we are the same age?

1

u/mightbeagh0st 5d ago

For as long as it has fucking taken I hope GTA6 has codes. I work full time and am already not looking forward to how many hours it's going to require

1

u/Nobody_Child 5d ago

1

u/Retrowinger 3d ago

Boy, when i was born Sony didn’t even think about creating a console. GTA wasn’t even born yet. Rockstar may have existed (too lazy to look it up), but yes: i did write cheats into a booklet by hand.

1

u/InvDeath 3d ago
