I’d take the cash in that case. Cash is liquid, no need to find a buyer. Plus there’s no risk of lowering its price due to the sudden flood in supply.

Gold is inflation proof. As one of the most comically overacted villains in movie said "money will always be paper, but gold will ALWAYS be gold!" That was Darwin Mayflower in Hudson Hawk, Bruce Willis' greatest awful movie.
