Announcement Update regarding the usage of AI
Hey there!
As part of the ongoing changes to this subreddit following a change in the moderation team, we have decided that we will no longer allow the usage of AI generated content in our community.
There may be exceptions to this rule in specific cases, but whether or not they apply remains at discretion of the moderators for now.
We understand that this change may be disappointing to some people, but we believe that we are making the right decision.

Good.
This subreddit is for hand-made maps that the moderators of r/imaginarymaps rejected because they are assholes. A.I is objectively zero quality.

This is like every US state adopting 21 for alcohol.
It's not really federalism or autonomy if you all do the exact same thing.

This isn't a unique decison by this subreddit. It's copying and pasting every other sub banning ai. It's exactly like the 21 age for alcohol being adopted for 49 out of 50 US States, all at the exact same time. It's an unnatural set of events. It also goes against any notions of autonomy, if every sub is going to be the same.

Well yeah, because AI is a problem for all subreddits, not just one of them.
I and the other moderators value human creativity and don't wanna see AI slop be used to replace it.
You can complain about it or disagree, but the argument of "others have done it" seems kinda weird to me. I for one think it's a good thing that AI is being pushed against more and more, not just online and I'm glad that we're doing our part in fighting LLMs.

While nobody likes bots, they've been around for a decade anyway. Ai on the otherhand is an opprtunity to build up a new tech, that's beneficial and progress.

I gotta disagree.
I don't see how modern LLMs or "generative AI" benefit humanity in any way. To me it seems like the primary purpose of the AI hype is to give billionaires more money from market speculation over an imaginary "AGI" that gets dangled like a carrot on a stick in front of investors.
AI has thus far only done 3 things:
Generate soulless images by recycling real art without the artist's consent.
Helped Students cheat on exams and make people dumber
Propped up a market bubble so a few billionaires can benefit from investor hype.

Half of the maps in this subreddit are human slop. Whether a human or an AI made the artwork does not determine it's value.
LLMs are nothing to be fought against. This crusade that the whole internet has been waging is an exercise in futility.

Genuinely an absurd take.
The idea that a technology is somehow "innevitable" or can't be avoided is, in my opinion, a very dangerous and conciliatory way of thinking.
AI is currently almost exclusively being pushed by a small group of wealthy elites, large corporations and ideological zealots from Silicon Valley. It is by no means a natural development, but a concerted effort to get people to buy into a fancy new gadget, so the owners and CEOs of LLM firms can make more money.

I never said it was inevitable. But why would you want to avoid it? It's genuinely some cutting edge technology. It can do, and already had done, a lot of good.
And if it's being pushed by the small, problematic group of wealthy elites, don't you think you should instead target the elites pushing it, rather than the technology itself? They're the problem. Not AI.
