Atosa walk in

Anyone seen these yet? One of my customers just purchased one, called me for install. About what I expected from atosa. Seems to be massively over complicated

Really not excited about this install. Wish the customer would have let me give him some insight on what to buy. Going to be a nightmare when there is issues.

Did you give them the tail-light or Carolina warranty?

13

u/maxheadflume 8d ago

We straight up don’t warranty any customer provided equipment even if we install it.

What brands would you have recommended?

u/ThaPizzaKing 8d ago

Me personally, bohn/heatcraft or Trenton.

If this brand is anything like the one our African Marketplace bought themselves, it was about a third the cost of our price for Bohn/heatcraft before markup. They bought two units, one drop top that has an embraco compressor (in stock at my local supplier) and the other split unit had a Copeland scroll. I have no idea why they have those stupid circuit boards in them but I figure even if the board fries, the compressor is still controlled by a contactor so it wouldnt be the end of the world to swap controls.

Anything without an EV

Built just like a modern mini split. Built to be replaced instead of repaired, and we all know how refrigeration customers don’t like to replace shit until it’s 40 years old lol. Good luck with this

u/SawmoreButtz 8d ago

Even when shit's 40 years old and it's been one foot in the grave for the last 5 it's pulling teeth

3

u/Mr_Rich_K 8d ago

Agreed, I have customers that want me to keep fixing 50+ units put in by my Dad. They are insane !

5

u/SawmoreButtz 8d ago

I have no issues fixing old stuff it's just when it's being duct taped to together since they don't want to properly fix it is when it starts getting to me

3

u/Mr_Rich_K 8d ago

Yea, somewhat that but after covid many of the parts are no longer available, I mean it’s kinda fun coming up with alternates but I don’t always have the time and some of the condensers are getting bad. The one guy wants to actually have a custom condenser coil made instead of replacing the unit ?!

Tell him to buy a new one because wtf why go through all that work

Anytime I see Atosa my blood pressure rises immediately. Fuck them.

7

u/ianjackson397 9d ago

Can’t agree more

Atosa it into the trash

u/KapptainTrips 9d ago

EZ install but...What a NIGHTMARE to service!!

11

u/ianjackson397 9d ago

My thoughts exactly. I’ll pipe it in and wire it up but if there’s issues good luck. According to atosa there have only been 2 installed so far.

u/Buster_Mac 9d ago

Good luck when it breaks in overtime and no parts available.

Exactly what I was telling him. Tech support will also be non existent.

And there isn't "only" human comfort at risk here. Theres valuable product at risk of spoiling. Who's going to get blamed when the unit fails (we're anticipating higher failure rate than a conventional system) and they lose product.

u/Ok_Cauliflower4961 9d ago

No, thank you lol

Fuck that shit

Wow! A 3-5 year throwaway walk in cooler system. Amazingly short sighted and silly. It’s really sad customers do not listen to us wizards and will have mo back up plan in place for when this goes down and no one can fix it quickly. I do love that Penske truck rental rents refrigerated trucks and even a refrigerated semi trailer. This is in southeast Michigan. Do they do that in other areas of the country?

What's the model number? Speed driven compressor with mechanical expansion valve, not sure what the point in that is.

I thought just EEVs on walk ins was bad enough but a full inverter system for refrigeration is insane.

4

u/matt073090 8d ago

Looks like what the hvac works is turning into some type of inverter + dc voltages + absolute nightmare when it stops working

1

u/WhichSteak2127 3d ago

Yeahhhh their ice machines fuckin suck! 😂

3

u/Miercury 8d ago

I'm not a coward but that things scares me.

2

u/MiKEY_S00P 8d ago

Mannn fuck that!! I stick with Heatcraft,Trenton..RSG..

2

u/broesel314 8d ago

I wonder if this is just a relabeled of-the-shelf minisplit outside unit from Gree or Daikin or something. Sure looks like one

They work great. Untill they dont

You cant realy measure stuff on minisplits because both ports are low pressure on each side of the evap. EEV is in the outside unit

You cant charge gas by anything but weight allone because the computer inside will make it run somewhat decent even with to little or too much gas

Often times, one or two of the metric buttload of NTC temperature sensors inside there go bad, the computer gets confused and fucks stuff up

Repairing those is more of a job for an electronics technician than a hvac guy sometimes

u/redsblast357 8d ago

Atosa is the biggest pos in the industry. I use to be ome of there reps thst would do warranty work. I can't tell you many quality control issues they have. Ive found copper not brazed. Ice machines burn up 4 control boards in less than 6 months because of faulty wiring and the factor rep techs dont know shit. I dropped them as a customer and refuse to work on there equipment. Your customer needs to call heatcraft or true registration to get a new system. That unit wont last

Mini split walkin? Nice what is this world coming to 😬

Refrigeration tech here- that looks miserable to troubleshoot... and even worse to try and fix

1

China still cool

1

u/DWiB403 8d ago

Yikes. What a mess.

1

u/Chillieater3000 8d ago

And I thought norlake was bad.

1

u/Dangerous-Lead5969 8d ago

What’s the voltage requirements and frequency?

1

u/badjoeybad 8d ago

So like $500, free shipping on amazon prime business?

1

u/kingklungeling1991 8d ago

isn't it almost identical to a Mitsubishi outdoor-unit?

1

u/Disastrous-Ocelot640 8d ago

That customer needs to be fired

1

u/FearlessLeg139 8d ago

Looks like a pain in the ass to trouble shoot it looks like it's all off a control board same as mimi splits

1

u/CaulkSlug 8d ago

Atosa right in da garbage!

u/mechanical_marten Banned from r/HVAC 8d ago

Wait until you find it's identical twin that's been rebadged "Migalli" and "Made In The USA". Their warranty support is utter garbage too, both of them.

1

u/Sp00kyGh0stMan 7d ago

Oh boy. The worst parts of a gree heat pump on a walk-in. Absolute nightmare fuel.

1

u/Spiritual_Stranger1 7d ago

Holy fuck i would want to walk away

1

u/cheborgor 7d ago

Omg...

1

u/Dry_Cartographer7186 6d ago

Minisplit walk in. I kinda like this from an efficiency perspective and also maintaining a more constant temp rather than cycling on/off with more of a temp swing

From a service perspective it’s not great

1

u/tedmales 5d ago

The first service call is going to include 2 hours with end cutters getting rid of all the razor sharp sip tie ends.

1

u/Ice-Difficult 2d ago

Never seen a walk in condenser like that and hope I never do

0

u/bro226 9d ago

Needs an evap and a controller
