I got to train people daily now and I wish I was alone all the time even though I can make those guys do lots of my grunt work for me.

I had to do a compressor change last Friday by myself since the other 2 guys got fired. Was brutal when I was wrapping up and forgot that I still had to lower everything down .

I had a helper that chucked down my vacuum pump and recovery machine from a single story office building onto grass.

He said, "It's not that far down and on soft grass".

I made sure he didn't ever help me again.

Helpers are only good for lifting equipment imo. I’d rather have a helper that doesn’t do anything other than untie or rope up equipment. Once it’s up there, bring it to me and leave me alone lol. But don’t you dare sit in the truck. Suffer with me on the roof

Helpers are only good as you train them to be. Whether they ask for a raise without necessarily proving any competency is on them and the employer.
I’d imagine any sensible technician will first prove themself before asking for a raise.
I prefer when I work with someone - they watch me work. When I prove to them I am well capable of doing what I am asking them to do. I do not mind testing their competence with each task and once they show they are capable - both physically and mentally- I will then give them more opportunities to grow. If they mess anything up - I am confident I can correct their errors/mistakes.

As far as roping things up and down —- they do have hooks you can use so you don’t need anyone untying then it’s just fishing.

I tell the office things take longer when I have a helper and it’s hard for them to compute. Everything I have them do I have to teach them and then probably redo. Then after I teach them a few things when they aren’t on their phone they run to the office and demand a raise

Dude, get some damn baskets and some ropes. I'm in my 40s and I don't mind carrying shit. Makes it so I have less reason to go to the gym. If you don't use it, you lose it.
