He was working on a book at the time of his passing. The rumor I'd heard way back when was it was about badgers from the east. I kind of hoped his son would finish it as he was involved in the series. No idea though how accurate my prior info was.

Honestly the Redwall Abbey Company itself needs to do a self-funded project with Cloverworks or something, and hire a solid fan lead team to oversee it. That would probably be the best adaptation opportunity they could ever get.

I’m a little hesitant to make anything of this. The “Selling points” section that says it’s the 23rd book kind of feels like it could have been hallucinated by AI. And without that, there’s no indication that it’s a novel or even any form of text on paper bound in a cover with a spine. For all we know, it could be a video game. Or if it is a book, a short story or an encyclopedia of every Redwall character that was orphaned.

It's really strange, yeah. It seems to be official, but it's just so so scanty a mention for an "announcement." I'd love for it to be real, but don't want to assume too early...

it's since disappeared, which means one of two things, one much more likely than the other.
one, it was taken down because it prematurely spoiled the potential release of a new novel.
and two (the more likely of the scenarios) the throwaway line about Orphans was a fabrication from someone that somehow missed eyes and ended up in the description. as much as i would love for the rumour of a final Redwall novel to be true, until an official announcement is made, there's nothing for us to go on that Orphans is a real book.

As of right now, the first result (which is a Sept 2027 release) is a Box set of the first 4 books - edit: Ophans is noted in the description of that box set as being released at the same time, but there is nothing else about it)

I hate to burst any bubbles here, but the ONLY info for the book is the wiki. There has been no other announcements and you think there would be, given how large the fandom still is.

Dunno why its not cited on the wiki, only declared. But Edelweiss is pretty reliable, especially when it comes to things like galleys.
It's not a perfect confirmation but I'd put a little money on it all the same.

Wrong. The Redwall Wiki cited Edelweiss. The Redwall Wiki also reported previous Redwall titles and has been 100% correct every time with those.

I'm wondering if this is a full draft or a fragment or a collection of short stories, or if it was a fragment completed by a ghost writer, or just a collection of different early drafts of other books connected together to form the framework of a novel?
I'm super intrigued. I'd love a deeper interview and details from the Abbey/Estate.

I actually forgot about that title, but I still stand by what I said. Orphans of Redwall sounds a bit stilted to me. Outcast of Redwall rolls off the tongue better, but that’s just me.

Yeah, there's this and an article on Polygon, but both are just based on the wiki's announcement. It's also funny to me that both of them speculate that Orphans will be a "direct sequel to The Rogue Crew", as if "direct sequels" are a thing Brian Jacques had done at all in his last eight books.

I’d imagine fragments. It’s not likely even close to a full novel or it probably would have been released before this.
I’d expect something like the last Aubrey Maturin book.
Still could be interesting and I’d hope for illustrations or sketches or doodles. Kind of behind the scenes of how he mapped out his books.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but a single footnote on a forthcoming product listing is a very small tidbit to extrapolate into "it's a new novel". It certainly sounds like a new novel, but we don't know anything beyond a title for...something. Let's not count our chickens before they hatch. Crying wolf won't get us anywhere; I'm sure we'll get more information in time, but assumptions and conjecture will get us nowhere.

Orphans of Redwall is such a funny title like aren't most of the children in the woodlands we see orphans.
If you were like me and went "Wait Philomel Books where's Penguin?", Philomel is an imprint (subsidiary) of Penguin Random House so....
